Lees Knowles
Sir Lees Knowles, 1st Baronet, (16 February 1857 – 7 October 1928) was a British barrister, military historian and Conservative politician. Early life Knowles was the son of John Knowles and Elizabeth Lees of Green Bank, Oldham, Lancashire whose family owned Andrew Knowles and Sons, collieries in the Irwell Valley. He was educated at Rugby School and at Trinity College, Cambridge. He was a prominent athlete at both institutions and became president of the Cambridge University Athletics Club. Knowles became the British half-mile champion after winning the AAC Championships title at the 1878 AAC Championships. He studied law, and was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1882. Career Politics Knowles was involved in Unionist politics, and stood unsuccessfully for the Conservatives at Leigh in the 1885 general election. Lees Radcliffe
Lees Radcliffe (23 November 1865 – 22 January 1928) was an English cricketer. Radcliffe was a right-handed batsman who fielded as a wicket-keeper. He was born in Smithy Bridge, Littleborough, Lancashire. Radcliffe made his first-class debut for Lancashire against Sussex in the 1897 County Championship. He made 49 further first-class appearances for the county, the last of which came against Sussex in the 1905 County Championship. In his 50 first-class matches, he scored 275 runs at an average of 6.11, with a high score of 25. His role within the team was as a specialist wicket-keeper. In his role as a wicket-keeper, he took 70 catches and made 34 stumpings. The 1905 season was his last playing for Lancashire. Years later in 1911, Radcliffe played two Minor Counties Championship matches for Durham against Cheshire and Norfolk. He died at Crumpsall, Lancashire on 22 January 1928. Lees Whitehead
Lees Whitehead (14 March 1864 – 22 November 1913) was an English first-class cricketer, who played in 119 games for Yorkshire County Cricket Club between 1889 and 1904. He also appeared in fifteen games for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) (1890-1903) and for Wembley Park (1896) and over 30 (1901) in first-class games. Born in Birchen Bank, Friarmere near Saddleworth in Yorkshire, Whitehead appeared in a total of 136 first-class matches. He scored 2,433 runs as a right-handed batsman, with a highest score of 67 not out against Somerset. He took seventy nine catches in the field, and took 109 wickets with his right arm fast bowling, with a best return of 6 for 45 against the MCC, at an average of 25.67. He took five wickets in an innings on three occasions.
