Lees Of Scotland
Lees Foods Limited, commonly known as Lees of Scotland, is a manufacturer of branded confectionery and meringues in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. History The company was founded in 1931 by John Justice Lees, the son of a grocer on Newland Street in Coatbridge. Lees had been attempting to create a smooth chocolate fondant bar in a workshop above the family shop in Newlands Street. Although unsuccessful, he attempted to coat the bar in coconut as an experiment, leading to the recipe for the Lees Macaroon bar. The original products manufactured by Lees are the Lees Macaroon bar and the Lees Snowball. The company subsequently added other products, later adding Tablet (confectionery), tablet, fudge and coconut ice bars. In 1982, Lees set up Heather Cameron Foods, expanding the company to manufacture meringues. Lees bought out the company seven years later, becoming the outright owner. The company suffered losses during the 1980s, and was sold to Fine Foods in 1991. Two year ...

Lees Avenue
Lees Avenue is both a road and a neighbourhood in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The area lies in the narrow stretch between the Rideau Canal and Rideau River south of Sandy Hill and the Queensway and is part of Old Ottawa East. The neighbourhood is dominated by five large apartment buildings, some of the largest in Ottawa. These buildings range from low cost to moderate cost and mostly house new immigrants, students and young professionals. Across the Rideau River to the east Hurdman is a more recently built such area. Prior to Ottawa East's annexation in 1907, Lees was known as William Street. Originally the area was an industrial zone lying beside the train tracks. In the 1950s, the tracks were removed and replaced by the Queensway. The industry also left the area and new towers began to be built. The Eastern Ontario Institute of Technology, (later to merge with The Ontario Vocational Centre and renamed Algonquin College), opened its new Rideau Campus there in 1964. The Ottaw ...

Lees Priory
Lees Priory is a former Augustinian priory located in Derbyshire, United Kingdom. History Lees Priory was located near to Chatsworth House, in an area of the estate known as Carlton Lees: between the villages of Edensor and Beeley. The priory was occupied by Augustinian Canons Regular, and was dependent upon Rocester Abbey in Staffordshire. The priory is thought to have been founded before 1160, and dissolved between 1517 and 1540, but its exact status is unclear. It is known to have been dependent upon Rocester Abbey, and is often referred to as a cell to Rocester. However, in 1517, there is reference to the "Prior of Lees", indicating, at least by that point, the establishment was a formal priory; meaning the establishment had far greater Independence and a larger monastic population than a cell, which is directly dependent upon its mother church. The priory did not escape King Henry VIII Henry VIII (28 June 149128 January 1547) was King of England from 22 April ...

Lees GAA
Lees Football Club is a defunct Cork-based Gaelic Athletic Association club on the southside of Cork city, Ireland. The club was founded in 1886 and was primarily concerned with the game of Gaelic football. The club had a strong association with the Lee Rowing Club and the teams were largely made up of West Cork men working in the city. # # By the late 1920s the club was almost defunct and at the 1929 AGM of a rival club, Nils, the chairman "stressed the fact that Gaelic Football was in a deplorable state in the city at the present time, and teams of long connection with the GAA like Nils and Lees, found it almost impossible to put a single senior team on the field when a couple of years back they could put senior, intermediate and junior teams. There was certainly work for an organiser here to organise Gaelic football in Cork City and help to bring it back to the high position in the GAA which it held some years back." # # Lees spent 111 years on top of the Cork SFC Roll of H ...

Lees (fermentation)
Lees are deposits of dead yeast or residual yeast and other particles that precipitate, or are carried by the action of " fining", to the bottom of a vat of wine after fermentation and aging. The same while brewing beer at a brewery is known as trub – the same from secondary fermentation of wine and beer are the lees or equally, as to beer only, dregs. This material is the source for most commercial tartaric acid, which is used in cooking and in organic chemistry. The term in English derives from Middle English ''lie'', from Anglo-French, from Medieval Latin ''lia.'' Webster's Third International Dictionary shows from ''lia'', "probably of Celtic origin, akin to Old Irish ''lige'' (bed), Gaulish ''legasit'' (he laid) and Welsh ''llaid'' (mud)." Normally, the wine is transferred to another container (racking), leaving this sediment behind. Some wines (notably Chardonnay, Champagne, and Muscadet) are sometimes aged for a time on the lees (a process known as '' sur lie ...
