Lebanon War 2006
The 2006 Lebanon War was a 34-day armed conflict in Lebanon, fought between Hezbollah and Israel. The war started on 12 July 2006, and continued until a United Nations-brokered ceasefire went into effect in the morning on 14 August 2006, though it formally ended on 8 September 2006 when Israel lifted its naval blockade of Lebanon. It marked the Israeli–Lebanese conflict, third Israeli invasion into Lebanon since 1978. The Israeli–Lebanese conflict, or the South Lebanon conflict,G. Rongxing. Golan Heights
The Golan Heights, or simply the Golan, is a basaltic plateau at the southwest corner of Syria. It is bordered by the Yarmouk River in the south, the Sea of Galilee and Hula Valley in the west, the Anti-Lebanon mountains with Mount Hermon in the north and Ruqqad, Wadi Raqqad in the east. It hosts vital water sources that feed the Hasbani River and the Jordan River. INS Hanit
INS ''Hanit'' (503) (, ''Spear'') is a of the Israeli Navy's 3rd Flotilla, built by Northrop Grumman Ship Systems in 1994. During the 2006 Lebanon War INS Hanit served as the flagship of the Israeli navy. On 14 July 2006, it was damaged after being struck by a Hezbollah C-701 anti-ship missile. Attack on 14 July 2006 During the 2006 Lebanon War, the vessel was patrolling in Lebanese waters ten nautical miles off the coast of Beirut. It was damaged on 14 July 2006 on the waterline, under the aft superstructure by a missile (likely a Chinese-designed C-802) fired by Hezbollah that reportedly set the flight deck on fire and crippled the propulsion systems inside the hull. Northern Command (Israel)
The Northern Command (, ''Pikud Tzafon'', often abbreviated to Patzan) is a regional command in the Israel Defense Forces. The command, whose main headquarters is in Safed, is responsible for all the units located between Hermon and Netanya. David Ben-Besht
David Ben-Besht (; born 1950) is a general in the Israel Defense Forces. Until 2007 he was commander of the Israeli Navy. Biography David Ben-Besht was born in Israel. He received a BA in Economics and an MBA in Business Administration and Management from the University of Haifa and studied at the United States Marine Corps College for a year in the early 1970s. Naval career Ben-Besht began his military career as a draftee in 1970 but then volunteered to attend the naval officer's course. Eliezer Shkedi
Aluf Eliezer "Eli" Shkedy (Hebrew: אליעזר "אלי" שקדי; born 16 August 1957) is a retired general in the Israel Defense Forces, who served as commander of the Israeli Air Force from 4 April 2004 until 13 May 2008. He is also a former CEO of El Al, the flag carrier of Israel. Shkedy was born in Israel; his father was a Hungarian-Jewish Holocaust survivor, whereas his mother was an Egyptian-Jewish immigrant. Shkedy, a resident of Yehud-Monosson, was born in Israel and after graduating from high school in Kfar Saba he was conscripted into the IDF in 1975. He was accepted into the IAF Flight Academy and graduated as a fighter pilot. Shkedy was a member of several units before he was assigned to Hatzerim Airbase. Udi Adam
Aluf Ehud "Udi" Adam (; born 22 January 1958) is a former general in the Israel Defense Forces and the former head of the Israeli Northern Command. Biography Adam was born in Tel Aviv to a Mountain Jewish family. His father was General Yekutiel Adam, former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), who was killed during the Lebanon War on June 10, 1982. His great-grandfather, Yekutiel Ravayev, was killed in combat defending Petah Tikva in 1916. Adam graduated from Herzliya Hebrew High School, and was conscripted into the IDF in 1976. Maj. Gen. Moshe Kaplinsky (Hebrew: משה קפלינסקי; born January 20, 1957) is an Israeli army general and businessman who was CEO of the Israeli subsidiary of Better Place. Dan Halutz (, ; born August 7, 1948) is an Israeli Air Force lieutenant general and former Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces and commander of the Israeli Air Force.
