''Mr. Orchid'' () is a 1946 French drama film directed by René Clément and starring Noël-Noël, Paul Frankeur and Nadine Alari.Williams p.281 It was entered into the 1946 Cannes Film Festival. It was shot at the Cité Elgé studios in Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art director Lucien Carré. Synopsis In a little town in the south-west of France during the German occupation, Édouard Martin handles the insurance needs of his fellow citizens and also, unknown to his family, is the local head of the Resistance. An officer in the First World War, he runs his network on disciplined lines, following orders from headquarters in London, who supply radios and arms by air. When a stranger named Jourdan is parachuted in and wants to mount dangerous attacks, he deduces that the man is an imposter and has him shot. René Clément
René Clément (; 18 March 1913 – 17 March 1996) was a French film director and screenwriter. He is known for directing the films ''The Battle of the Rails'' (1946), ''Forbidden Games'' (1952), ''Gervaise (film), Gervaise'' (1956), ''Purple Noon'' (1960), and ''Is Paris Burning? (film), Is Paris Burning'' (1966). He received numerous accolades including five prizes at the Cannes Film Festival and the Honorary César in 1984. Early life Clément studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts where he developed an interest in filmmaking. In 1936, he directed his first film, a 20-minute short written by and featuring Jacques Tati. Clément spent the latter part of the 1930s making documentaries in parts of the Middle East and Africa. Howard Vernon
Mario Walter Lippert (15 July 1908 – 25 July 1996), better known by his stage name Howard Vernon, was a Swiss actor and photographer. He had an extensive career in French cinema which spanned nearly 200 productions over 55 years, between 1945 and 2000. He was best known for his close association with cult filmmaker Jesús Franco, appearing in 40 of the director’s films, beginning with the titular character in '' The Awful Dr. Orloff'' (1962). Maurice Chevit (31 October 1923 – 2 July 2012) was a French actor. Maurice Chevit made his theatrical début just after the Second World War, and made his first screen appearance in 1946 in René Clément's film ''Le Père tranquille''. In August 1950, the Theatre de la Huchette in Paris presented ''Pepita ou Cinq cents francs de bonheur'', a three-act comedy that Chevit co-wrote with Henri Fontenille; Chevit himself appeared in it, playing alongside Jacqueline Maillan, Pierre Mondy and Jacques Jouanneau.
