Le Manège D'Andrea
''Le Manège d'Andrea'' (Andrea's Merry-go-round) is a carousel that was built by ''La Machine (production company), La Machine'' in Toulouse, France, in 1999 under the artistic and technical direction of François Delarozière. The ride was made with materials such as wood, leather, glass, iron, feathers, steel, tin and copper, together with several pieces from junk (motorbikes, electric fans, etc.). Every figure or seat has several mechanisms that can be activated by the children riding them, including a steering wheel on the ''Petit Poisson'' that turns the head and tail of the fish, a lever on the seahorse that nods its head, and a crank on a steam engine that releases "steam." The carousel is portable and travels frequently around France and neighboring countries, but is often operated in Nantes with the Machines of the Isle of Nantes, also developed by La Machine. Carousel
A carousel or carrousel (mainly North American English), merry-go-round (International English), or galloper (British English) is a type of amusement ride consisting of a rotating circular platform with seats for riders. The seats are traditionally in the form of rows of animal figures (usually horses) mounted on posts, many of which move up and down to simulate galloping. Sometimes chair-like or bench-like seats are used, and occasionally mounts can take the form of non-animals, such as airplanes or cars. Carousel rides are typically accompanied by looped circus music. François Delarozière
François Delarozière (born 1963) is the art director of La Machine, a French company which is a collaboration between artists, designers, fabricators and technicians and which specialises in producing giant performing machines, often creatures. He has collaborated with French and international companies in productions ranging from traditional theatre to experimental street art. Life and work Delarozière was born in 1963 in Marseille and studied there at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. He has worked in theatrical-based productions for over 20 years, first designing theatre sets and interiors. In 1987 he met Jean-Luc Courcoult, the artistic director of the French street theatre company Royal de Luxe and over a period of years, from 1991 to 2008, Delarozière, Courcoult and their engineers designed and created a host of huge performing creatures, which toured various European cities. The Machines of the Isle of Nantes () is an artistic, touristic and cultural project based in Nantes, France. The project is based in the old covered buildings of the former shipyards in Nantes that were at one time used for ship construction (''les nefs''), and later used as business sites. Exhibits The Great Elephant (2007) is a mechanical elephant, high and meters wide, made from 45 tons of wood and steel. It can take up to 49 passengers for a 45-minute walk.
