Lazarevsky City District
Lazarevsky city district () is one of four city districts of the types of inhabited localities in Russia, city of Sochi in Krasnodar Krai, Russia. The city district borders Tuapsinsky District in the northwest, Apsheronsky District in the north, Maykopsky District of the Republic of Adygea in the northeast, Khostinsky city district in the east, and Tsentralny city district, Sochi, Tsentralny city district in the south. The administration of the district is located in Lazarevskoye Microdistrict. In the southwest, it is bordered by the Black Sea. Population: Geography The district is located on the slopes of the Western Caucasus, which descend to the Black Sea. The coast within the district runs from northwest to southeast. The majority of the population of the district lives at or close to the seashore, in former settlements later turned microdistricts. Caucasus Zapovednik
Caucasus Nature Reserve is a Russian ''zapovednik'' (strict ecological reserve) covering a heavily mountainous section of the Northwest Caucasus Mountains. It is the largest and oldest in the territory of specially protected natural area in the Caucasus, having been created in 1924 as the Caucasian Bison Reserve. In 1979, the site was named a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and in 1999 included in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2008 it was officially renamed after Khachatur (Christopher) G. Shaposhnikova the biologist who founded the reserve. The area is situated in the Mostovsky District of Krasnodar Krai, covering an area of . Shakhe River
The Shakhe (; Adyghe: ), also known as the Golovinka () is a river in Khostinsky and Lazarevsky City Districts of the city of Sochi, Krasnodar Krai in Russia. It flows down the slopes of the Western Caucasus to the Black Sea. It is long, and the area of its basin . Its main tributary is the Bzych (left). The Shakhe is the second longest river of Sochi, next to the Mzymta. Almost the whole course of the Shakhe, with the exception of the proximity to the sea, lies within Sochi National Park. The source of the river is in the mountains northwest of Krasnaya Polyana. The Shakhe flows northwest in a narrow valley, the first settlement downstream is Babuk-Aul where the river turns west. Downstream of Babuk-Aul it accepts the Azhu from the right and turns south. In the village of Bzogu it accepts the Bzych from the left and turns west. Dagomys
Dagomys (); is a microdistrict of Sochi, Russia (12 km from the city centre), known for its resorts, vacation spots and tea plantations. It was developed as a resort since before the Russian Revolution (1917), Russian Revolution, when a botanical garden was founded by order of Tsar Nicholas II. A modern hotel complex was opened there in 1982. Dagomys adjoins Bocharov Ruchey, a dacha built for Kliment Voroshilov in the 1950s, but later upgraded into a country residence of the President of Russia, where he normally spends his vacations and confers with leaders of other states. Geography Dagomys is located between Sochi and Loo Microdistrict, Loo, from the center of Sochi. It was noticed long ago that the summers are colder here than in other coastal areas, because of the air currents from the nearby mountains. Loo Microdistrict
Loo (; ) is a microdistrict of Lazarevsky City District of the city of Sochi, Krasnodar Krai, Russia, located from the city center. Loo railway station is one of the stations on the North Caucasus Railway, subsidiary of Russian Railways and can be reached by the M27 highway (Russia), M27 highway. History The name "Loo" derives from the name of an Abazins, Abazin feudal family, Lau or Loo. Until 1864, Ubykhs from the Vardane, Krasnodar Krai, Vardane community lived in the Loo (River), Loo river valley. Vardane, Krasnodar Krai
Vardane () is a microdistrict in Lazarevsky City District of the City of Sochi in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, located on the coast of the Black Sea at the influx of the Buu River. It was formerly a stand-alone settlement before being subsumed into Sochi. The Vardane railway station of the North Caucasus railway is located here. The microdistrict has a population of 5,000 people. History Vardane (formerly known as Buap and Tsopsyn) is one of the oldest settlements on the territory of present-day Sochi. Its name is of Abkhaz origin and is linked to the Vardan family, whose name can be found in the toponymy of Abkhazia as well.
