''Lawman Without a Gun'' (also known as ''This Man Stands Alone'') is a 1978 American made-for-television drama film starring Louis Gossett Jr., written and directed by Jerrold Freedman.The Taming of Hatter Fox Smith, Cecil. Thomas Earl Gilmore Sr. Raised in Forkland, Alabama and known as the “sheriff without a gun,” he became the first black sheriff of Greene County and the second black sheriff in the state of Alabama. Louis Gossett Jr
Louis Cameron Gossett Jr. (born May 27, 1936) is an American actor. Born in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York City, He had his stage debut at the age of 17, in a school production of '' You Can't Take It with You.'' Shortly after he successfully auditioned for the Broadway play '' Take a Giant Step.'' Gossett would go on acting on stage. One of these plays was ''A Raisin in the Sun'' in 1959, and in 1961 he made his debut on screen in its film adaptation. From thereon, Gossett added to his resume many roles in films and television, as well as releasing music. In 1977, Gossett gained wide recognition for his role of Fiddler in the popular miniseries '' Roots''. Lon Leonard Chapman (October 1, 1920 – October 12, 2007) was an American actor best known for his numerous guest star appearances on television drama series. Early years Chapman was the son of Elmer and Eunice Chapman, He was born on October 1, 1920, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but lived thereafter in Joplin, Missouri. He graduated from Joplin High School and, in 1940, from Joplin Junior College. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific during World War II. In 1947, Chapman graduated with a BFA degree from the University of Oklahoma at Norman. Then in 1947 he hitchhiked with Dennis Weaver, his best friend at the university, to New York City, where he landed the role of Turk in '' Come Back, Little Sheba. James McEachin
James McEachin (born May 20, 1930) is an American author and retired actor. Military career McEachin served in the United States Army before, and then during, the Korean War. Serving in King Company, 9th Infantry Regiment (United States), 2nd Infantry Division, he was wounded (nearly fatally) in an ambush and nearly left for dead. McEachin was one of only two soldiers to survive the ambush. He was awarded both the Purple Heart and Silver Star in 2005 by California Congressman David Dreier after McEachin participated in a Veterans History Project interview for Dreier's office and Drier's staff, Carlos Cortez, discovered McEachin had no copies of his own military records.
