James Joseph Lawlor (10 May 1933 – 5 April 2012), also known as Jimmy Lawlor or Jim Lawlor, was an Irish professional footballer who played in both Ireland and England as a centre half. Career Born in Finglas Bridge, Dublin, Ireland, Lawlor spent his early career with Transport, Shamrock Rovers and Drumcondra. In August 1952, he was signed for English club Doncaster Rovers by manager Peter Doherty. He made his debut for Doncaster on 16 October 1954 in a 5–1 defeat against Lincoln City, and made a total of nine appearances in the Football League for Doncaster during the 1954–55 season. He also scored two goals in a friendly match against Scottish club Celtic on 18 November 1952. Edward G. Lawlor (1907-1987), born in England into a Roman Catholic family and raised in Canada, was a minister for most of his adult life in the Church of the Nazarene. Edward Lawlor was born June 7, 1907, in South Bank, North Yorkshire. His father died when he was still quite young. At that point, his mother emigrated to Canada with her four children. At age 18, Edward was converted through the ministry of the Salvation Army. Not long after that he felt that God was calling him to preach. So he went to the Salvation ArmTraining Collegein Toronto. After graduation, he began his ministry as a Salvationist. In 1928 Captain Lawlor married Salvationist Peggy Baird, a Scottish immigrant he had met just three weeks before. Playing career Club Lawlor plays his club hurling with his local club in Croom and has enjoyed some success. As an under-age player he captured played in the minor county final in 1998, however, Croom were defeated by Adare. Lawlor later moved onto the club's under-21 team where he won a county title in this grade in 2001. Mick Lawlor (born 12 April 1949 in Dublin) is an Irish former footballer who played as a forward. Playing career Son of Kit Lawlor he joined Shamrock Rovers in 1966 and made a scoring debut on 20 April 1966. He scored his first goal for the Hoops the following season in a Dublin City Cup semi final win over Waterford United. He twice played in the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup for Rovers against Randers FC and FC Schalke 04. He scored 41 League and 8 FAI Cup goals in the green and white and earned one League of Ireland XI cap. After all the success at Milltown Mick signed for Shelbourne in January 1974. He later signed for Dundalk F.C. in 1976 and was named Player of the Month in March 1977.
