Bobby & Laurie were an Australian Beat music, beat pop duo of the 1960s, with Laurie Allen (1942–2002) on vocals, guitar and keyboards and Bobby Bright (born in Watford, England, 3 February 1945) on vocals and guitar. Their regular backing band were the Rondells. The duo's most popular singles were, "I Belong with You" (1964) and "Roger Miller discography#1950s and 1960s, Hitch Hiker" (1966). Their debut album, ''Bobby and Laurie'' (1965), was the first for independent label, Go Records, Go!!. The duo disbanded in 1967 to pursue solo careers and briefly reformed from 1969 to 1971. Lori Elaine Allen is an American astronomer, the director of Mid-Scale Observatories at NOIRLab, a center for ground-based optical and infrared astronomy funded by the National Science Foundation that operates several astronomy facilities worldwide. Education and career Allen has a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His professional career got going in the early 1960s. He was in The First Real Poetry Band with Pete Brown (vocals), John McLaughlin (guitar), Binky McKenzie (bass), and Pete Bailey (percussion). In 1967, he recorded with Chris McGregor, Dudu Pukwana, Ronnie Beer, and Coleridge Goode on Gwigwi Mrwebi's ''Mbaqanga Songs''. Laurie Allyn was an American jazz singer and former model. She is best known for her sole album ''Paradise'', which was recorded in 1957 and amassed critical acclaim after a belated release in 2004. Early life and career Allyn was born into a musical family and raised in Waco, Texas.
