Latvian Academy Of Culture
The Latvian Academy of Culture () is a higher education establishment in Latvia offering various bachelor's, magister and doctoral degree programmes on cultural subjects. The academy was founded in 1990 and is located in the Latgale Suburb of Riga. History On 29 December 1990, the Latvian Cabinet of Ministers adopted the decision to create what would later be known as the Academy of Culture. The philosopher Pēteris Laķis was appointed rector and, in cooperation with the head of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, Jānis Siliņš, tasked with founding the new academy and form its study programmes. Studies began in the summer of 1991 with 25 students studying Cultural Theory, History and Administration, and five students studying Latvian and Danish, Latvian and Swedish, Latvian and Norwegian, Latvian and Polish, and Latvian and Lithuanian. Riga ( ) is the capital, Primate city, primate, and List of cities and towns in Latvia, largest city of Latvia. Polish (, , or simply , ) is a West Slavic languages, West Slavic language of the Lechitic languages, Lechitic subgroup, within the Indo-European languages, Indo-European language family, and is written in the Latin script. Iveta Grigule-Pēterse
Iveta Grigule-Pēterse (born 30 September 1964) is a Latvian politician formerly for the Latvian Farmers' Union (until 2017). She was elected to the European Parliament in 2014 as the sole representative for the Union of Greens and Farmers. She was formerly a member of the Latvian Green Party and was elected to the Saeima in 2010 for the Union of Greens and Farmers. She was excluded from the Green Party in 2011 but successfully ran as an independent for the Union of Greens and Farmers in the 2011 Latvian parliamentary election. Inga Gaile
Inga Gaile (born 29 June 1976, in Riga, Latvia) is a Latvian poet, novelist, and playwright. Biography Gaile has written poetry collections for adults and children. Her works often focus on feminist issues as well as issues related to different stigmatised groups. She has won the Latvian Literature Award and the Poetry Days Festival prize. Gaile has translated poetry from Russian into Latvian, and her poems have also been translated into various languages including English, Estonian, German, Swedish, Lithuanian, and Bengali. Agris Daņiļevičs
Agris Daņiļevičs (born 26 October 1963 in Sigulda) is a Latvian choreographer and dance teacher. Biography In 1985, he graduated from the Department of Culture and Art Sciences of the Latvian Conservatory. In 2008, he obtained a master's degree in theater directing at the Latvian Academy of Culture. In the 1980s, he worked in the folk dance ensemble "Gundega", initially as a tutor, later as an artistic director. In 1985, he became head of the Krimulda Parish dance group "Dzirnas", in 1998 - head of the dance school "Dzirnas". In 2002, he founded dance school "Dzirnas" in Riga. Saeima
The Saeima () is the parliament of the Latvia, Republic of Latvia. It is a unicameral parliament consisting of 100 members who are elected by proportional representation, with seats allocated to political parties which gain at least 5% of the popular vote. Elections are scheduled to be held once every four years, normally on the first Saturday of October. The most recent elections were held in 2022 Latvian parliamentary election, October 2022. The President of Latvia can dismiss the Saeima and request early elections. Lolita Čigāne (born 18 August 1973) is an international consultant and policy analyst in elections, good governance, parliamentarianism and anti-corruption, previously a journalist, anti-corruption activist and advocate and a member of parliament. She was first elected to the 10th Saeima (parliament) in 2010. Rasa Bugavičute-Pēce
Rasa Bugavičute-Pēce (born 25 January 1988 in Riga, Latvia) is a Latvian playwright and writer. Life and career Bugavičute-Pēce received her primary schooling at the Riga French Lyceum before going on to study at the Latvian Academy of Culture, graduating in 2011 with a bachelor's degree in Theatre, Film and TV Drama. In 2013 she received a magister degree in Culture Management, also from the Academy of Culture. The same year she received a second magister degree, in Writing Studies, from the University of Liepāja. In 2011, Bugavičute-Pēce was elected chair of the Latvian Playwrights' Guild, serving until 2015. Since 2015 she has been a playwright at the Liepāja Theatre. Baiba Broka (born 7 January 1973) is a Latvian stage, television and film actress. Career Born in Riga, Latvia, Broka began her film career in the 1992 Dzidra Ritenberga-directed drama ''Valsis mūža garumā'' ( English release title: ''Waltzing Through Love''), for which she won the Lielais Kristaps award, Latvia's highest prize awarded in cinema. Inga Alsiņa (born 18 September 1979) is a Latvian actress. She was born and raised in Cēsis and studied in the Cēsis Secondary school No.1 from 1985 until 1996.
