Latrodectus Variolus
''Latrodectus variolus'', the northern black widow spider or northern widow, is a venomous species of spider in the genus '' Latrodectus'' of the family Theridiidae. The population is closely related to the southern black widow, '' Latrodectus mactans'', and the western black widow, ''Latrodectus hesperus'', of the genus. In North America, the species is commonly found in Middle Atlantic states (New Jersey, Delaware, Connecticut, Maryland). Charles Athanase Walckenaer
Baron Charles Athanase Walckenaer (25 December 1771 – 28 April 1852) was a French civil servant, writer, man of letters, and scientist. He was a polymath and wrote extensively on geography, natural history, and literature. Major contributions included his multi-volume natural histories of arachnids and insects, some published in collaboration with others. He was made a baron in 1823. Biography Walckenaer was born in Paris and after losing his parents at an early age he was raised by his uncle Charles-Nicolas Duclos Dufresnoy, a notary in the court of Louis XVI. His uncle's elite and educated circle made an impression on the young boy and he was sent to study at the universities of Oxford and Glasgow. Antivenom
Antivenom, also known as antivenin, venom antiserum, and antivenom immunoglobulin, is a specific treatment for envenomation. Latrodectism () is the illness caused by the bite of ''Latrodectus'' spiders (the black widow spider and related species). Pain, muscle rigidity, vomiting, and sweating are the symptoms of latrodectism. There are several spider species all named black widow: southern black widow spider (''L. mactans''), the European black widow (''L. tredecimguttatus''), Western black widow spider (''L. hesperus''), Northern black widow spider (''L. variolus'').
