The Latin Quarter of Paris (french: Quartier latin, ) is an area in the 5th and the 6th arrondissements of Paris. It is situated on the left bank of the Seine, around the Sorbonne. Latin Quarter, Copenhagen
The Latin Quarter ( da, Latinerkvarteret) is a neighbourhood in central Copenhagen, Denmark. It is bounded by Nørregade to the west, Vestergade to the south, Vester Voldgade to the east and Nørre Voldgade to the north. The name refers to the Latin language, which was once widely spoken in and around the University, whose historic home is situated on the other side of Nørregade. Most of the student life has now been relocated to four new campuses but the area is still known for its lively atmosphere with an abundance of boutiques, cafés and night clubs. History The area around Our Lady's Square has been a centre for learning and thus use of the Latin language since the Middle Ages. Latin Quarter, Aarhus
Latinerkvarteret (lit.: ''The Latin Quarter'') in Aarhus, is the oldest part of the city and is itself part of the inner city. The quarter comprise the streets of Badstuegade, Klostergade, Volden, Studsgade, Borggade, Rosensgade, Mejlgade and Graven, with Pustervig Torv as the main square. The name Latinerkvarteret was officially adopted in the 1990s and reflects the areas similarities with the Latin Quarter of Paris by Rive Gauche. Some of the oldest houses date back to the 16th century. Latinerkvarteret is a busy center for shopping, there are many cafés and restaurants here and it has an active night life. Quartier Latin, Montreal
The Quartier Latin is an area in the Ville-Marie borough of Montreal, located east of the Quartier des Spectacles and west of the Centre-Sud and Village, centred around UQAM and lower Saint-Denis Street. It is known for its theatres, artistic atmosphere, cafés, and boutiques. It owes its name, a reference to the Quartier Latin in Paris, to the presence of the École Polytechnique de Montréal and the nascent Université de Montréal in the 1920s. In the 1940s the university moved out and headed for a new campus on the north slopes of Mount Royal, far from the downtown borough. In the late 1960s UQAM was born and established itself in the Ville-Marie borough, giving a modern underpinning to the name. A large junior college, the CEGEP du Vieux-Montreal also moved in at about the same period. Fontainhas (or Bairro das Fontainhas, in Portuguese) is an old Latin Quarter in Panjim, capital city of the state of Goa, India. It maintains its Portuguese influence, particularly through its architecture, which includes narrow and picturesque winding streets like those found in many European cities, old villas and buildings with projecting balconies painted in the traditional tones of pale yellow, green, or blue, and roofs made of red coloured tiles. Fontainhas' heritage ambience represents the traditional Portuguese influence in the area. Location Fontainhas is the oldest Latin quarter of Panjim, and is similar to a Mediterranean city. Latin Quarter (band)
Latin Quarter is a British band formed in 1983. They had one top 20 single "Radio Africa" in the United Kingdom. The British radio were cautious in the eighties to play their singles because of their political based lyrics. They became more popular in Germany and in northern Europe. Latin Quarter released their latest album, ''Releasing the Sheep'', on 29 October 2021. Their sound mixes elements of pop, rock, reggae and folk with largely political based lyrics. Career Latin Quarter began when ex-printer and Lincoln-born Steve Skaith left Liverpool for London in 1982 to write songs for music publishers Chappell. Skaith was also working on some rather more radical music with lyrics from an old friend of his called Mike Jones, both were members from the left wing political group Big Flame. ''Latin Quarter'' is a 1945 British thriller, which was directed by Vernon Sewell and stars Derrick De Marney, Joan Greenwood and Beresford Egan.
