Laurasia () was the more northern of two large landmasses that formed part of the Pangaea supercontinent from around ( Mya), the other being Gondwana. It separated from Gondwana (beginning in the late Triassic period) during the breakup of Pangaea, drifting further north after the split and finally broke apart with the opening of the North Atlantic Ocean 56 Mya. Placodermi
Placoderms (from Ancient Greek πλάξ 'plax'', ''plakos''' plate' and δέρμα 'derma'''skin') are vertebrate animals of the class Placodermi, an extinct group of prehistoric fish known from Paleozoic fossils during the Silurian and the Devonian periods. While their endoskeletons are mainly cartilaginous, their head and thorax were covered by articulated armoured plates (hence the name), and the rest of the body was scaled or naked depending on the species. Placoderms were among the first jawed fish (their jaws likely evolved from the first pair of gill arches), as well as the first vertebrates to have true teeth. Speciation is the evolutionary process by which populations evolve to become distinct species. The biologist Orator F. The Siljan Ring () is a prehistoric impact structure in Dalarna, central Sweden. It is one of the 15 largest known impact structures on Earth and the largest in Europe, with a diameter of about . The impact that created the Siljan Ring occurred when a meteorite collided with the Earth's surface during the Devonian period. A comet is an icy, small Solar System body that warms and begins to release gases when passing close to the Sun, a process called outgassing. An anoxic event describes a period wherein large expanses of Earth's oceans were depleted of dissolved oxygen (O2), creating toxic, euxinic ( anoxic and sulfidic) waters. Although anoxic events have not happened for millions of years, the geologic record shows that they happened many times in the past. Anoxic events coincided with several mass extinctions and may have contributed to them. These mass extinctions include some that geobiologists use as time markers in biostratigraphic dating.
