Landquart–Thusis Railway Line
The Landquart–Thusis railway line is a Swiss Metre-gauge railway, metre-gauge railway line running from Landquart railway station, Landquart via Chur to Thusis. It is part of the Rhaetian Railway core network and provides a connection between the Landquart–Davos Platz railway and the Albula Railway. Between Landquart and Chur, the line runs largely parallel to the Standard-gauge railway, standard-gauge Chur–Rorschach railway of Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). The line from Chur to Thusis was opened in 1896. Description is the starting point of the Rhaetian Railway, historically part of the Landquart–Davos railway, operationally the location of the main workshop and network. The Rhaetian Railway (; ; ), abbreviated RhB, is a Swiss transport company that owns the largest network of all private railway operators in Switzerland. Thusis
Thusis (, '' Romansh: Tusàn'') is a municipality in the Viamala Region in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. On 1 January 2018 the former municipality of Mutten merged into the municipality of Thusis. History Thusis is first mentioned in 1156 as ''Tosana''. The town was devastated by more than 10 fires and after the one of 1845, it had to be rebuilt. Geography Thusis has an area, , of . Pontresina railway station is a railway station in the municipality of Pontresina, in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. It is located at the junction of the Bernina and Samedan–Pontresina lines of the Rhaetian Railway. The station has a large station building and seven through tracks, numbered 1 to 7, but only three of these are served by platforms. A side platform adjacent to the station building serves track 1, whilst an island platform, accessed by a pedestrian subway, serves tracks 3 and 4. Scuol-Tarasp (Rhaetian Railway Station)
Scuol-Tarasp railway station is the northern terminus of the Bever–Scuol-Tarasp railway. It is located on the western edge of the village of Scuol at an altitude of 1287 m in the Lower Engadine. The station is named after the neighbouring village of Scuol and the small town of Tarasp. Scuol-Tarasp station was completely rebuilt and renovated in 2009. Since then, a Postbus stop has been located on the right side of the station building; this is the starting point for Postbus routes in the Lower Engadine. In addition, an island platform was built with platform track 1 as a dead-end track and track 2 as a through track. This allows direct access to the trains and platform at ground level. The Glacier Express is a direct Panorama Express (PE) train connecting railway stations of the two major mountain resorts of Zermatt and St. Moritz via Andermatt in the central Swiss Alps. Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn
The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn is a narrow gauge railway line and a railway company (Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn AG, MGB) in Switzerland. The track width is . It was created in 2003 through an amalgamation of Furka Oberalp Bahn (FO) and BVZ Zermatt-Bahn (BVZ). The name comes from the Matterhorn and St. Gotthard Pass. Its network is long and stretches from Disentis in the canton of Graubünden to Zermatt in the canton of Wallis, by way of the Oberalp Pass and Andermatt in the canton of Uri, the Furka Base Tunnel, Brig, and Visp. Dual Gauge
Dual gauge railroad track has three or four rails, allowing vehicles of two track gauges to run on it. Signalling and sidings are more expensive to install on dual gauge tracks than on two single gauge tracks. Dual gauge is used when there is not enough room for two single tracks or when tracks of two different gauges meet in marshalling yards or train stations.
