Ágúst Guðmundsson
Ágúst Guðmundsson (born 29 June 1947) is an Icelandic film director and screenwriter. He studied French, Icelandic in Reykjavík and filmmaking at the National Film School in London. He has made many popular Icelandic films that have also been translated into other languages. His 1998 film '' The Dance'' was entered into the 21st Moscow International Film Festival where he won the Silver St. George for Best Director. He is currently director of BÍL, The Federation of Icelandic Artists. Iceland has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1981. The first film to be sent to AMPAS by Iceland was '' Land and Sons'' which was released in Iceland in 1980. Since then, Iceland has sent in a film every year. Only one Icelandic film, ''Börn náttúrunnar'' (''Children of Nature''), directed by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson, has received a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. This is a list of submissions to the 53rd Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 53rd Academy Awards, twenty-six films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Magnús Ólafsson (born 17 February 1946) is an Icelandic actor, comedian, singer and former handball player. A veteran stage and film actor of several decades, he is best known for his performance of the character ''Bjössi Bolla'' which was created when he was a member of the comedy band Sumargleðin in the early 1980's along with Ragnar Bjarnason, Ómar Ragnarsson, Bessi Bjarnason and Þorgeir Ástvaldsson. With Sumargleðin, he sang the hit song ''Prins Póló'' in 1981. Handball career Magnús played as a goalkepper for FH's handball team for several season, winning the Icelandic championship in 1974 and 1976 and the Icelandic Cup for three straight years from 1975 to 1977.
