Lancashire League (cricket)
The Lancashire League is a competitive league of local cricket clubs drawn from the small to middle-sized mill towns, mainly but not exclusively, of East Lancashire. Its real importance is probably due to its history of employing professional players of international standing to play in the League. After declining earlier opportunities to have this status, the league became an ECB Premier Leagues, ECB Premier League from the 2023 season. History The Lancashire Cricket League was formed on 16 March 1892, growing from the North East Cricket League which had been formed 17 months earlier. Lowerhouse Cricket Club
Lowerhouse Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League, which plays its home games at The Brooks Foundation Ground on Liverpool Road in Burnley. In recent years the club has been very successful, winning the Lancashire League in 2005, 2011, 2012 and 2014, the Worsley Cup in 2004, 2012, 2018, 2021 and 2024, and the 20/20 Cup in 2013. The club won the Lancashire League for the first time in 2005, captained by Joe Beneduce, having won the Worsley Cup for the first time the year before, captained by Matt Hope. It has employed professionals, including Matthew Mott, Ryan Harris, Martin van Jaarsveld, Jacques Rudolph and Peter Fulton. Todmorden Cricket Club
Todmorden Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Lancashire League, which plays its home games at Centre Vale in Todmorden, West Yorkshire. Until the administrative border was changed in 1888, the historic boundary between Lancashire and Yorkshire ran through the centre of the ground. History In October 1890, Todmorden Cricket Club (Todmorden CC) were founder members of the Lancashire League (then called the North East Lancashire Cricket League), but resigned in February 1891 without playing a game. In 1891, Todmorden CC was a founder member of the South East Lancashire Cricket League, which changed to the Central Lancashire Cricket League in 1893. The club won this league in 1896, before rejoining the Lancashire League for the 1897 season. Littleborough Cricket Club
Littleborough Cricket Club, based in Littleborough, in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, is an English cricket team currently playing in the Central Lancashire League. The club was founded in 1839 and it played on the famous Hare Hill ground. Littleborough was the founding member and inaugural champions of the Central Lancashire League, and have been league champions on twenty occasions, the last time being in 2005. Littleborough holds Lancashire Cricket Board Focus Club status and is ECB Clubmark accredited. Two senior teams play in the CLL in addition to a 3rd XI who play in the North Manchester League. The club's junior section fields teams in the CLL at U18, U15, U13, U11 and U9 age groups and the juniors receive expert coaching at the club during the summer on Monday evenings. Bury Cricket Club
Bury Cricket Club is a cricket club in the Greater Manchester Cricket League (GMCL), which plays its home games at Bury Sports and Social Club on Radcliffe Road, Bury, Greater Manchester. the 1st XI captain is Dominic Morris. History of the Club The club was founded in 1845, initially playing its cricket in the Townside district of the town. However, the arrival of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway required the club to seek pastures new. They then located to Foundry Street in the town, but this land was also required for development, with the building of Barlow's Mill in 1852. Once again the club had to move and found a site at Buckley Wells, currently Bury Grammar School's playing fields, where they stayed until 1922. In 1919, Samuel Roberts provided land on Radcliffe Road to be used for sporting facilities for the people of Bury following the end of the Great War. Walsden Cricket Club
Walsden Cricket Club (; ) are an English cricket team currently playing in the Lancashire League; however, despite being in a Lancashire league, the village is actually situated in the county of West Yorkshire. Walsden field 1XI 2XI and 3XI senior teams as well as U18, U15 and U13 junior teams. The 2XI won their respective league beating Unsworth CC by 5 wickets on 28 August 2006 despite 3 matches to be played. In the same year Walsden won the aggregate trophy from the C.L.L. for the first time in the club's history. Walsden's 2nd Xi once again skippered by Paul Marrow went on to win the respective league title again in 2007 also reaching the Burton Cup Final. West Riding Of Yorkshire
The West Riding of Yorkshire was one of three historic subdivisions of Yorkshire, England. From 1889 to 1974 the riding was an administrative county named County of York, West Riding. The Lord Lieutenant of the West Riding of Yorkshire, lieutenancy at that time included the city of York and as such was named "West Riding of the County of York and the County of the City of York". Rochdale Cricket Club
Rochdale Cricket Club are an English cricket team from Rochdale, Greater Manchester, currently playing in the Lancashire League. Until 2015 they played in the Central Lancashire League, being one of the oldest - and most successful - of all the CLL teams. They joined the CLL in 1893, the league having been founded a year earlier under the title of the South East Lancashire league. Rochdale won the league title a record 28 times, the last occasion being in 2007. They also won the Wood Cup - a knockout competition - 13 times, equalling Littleborough.
