Lalitha (film)
''Lalitha'' is a 1976 Indian Tamil-language film, written and directed by Valampuri Somanathan. Starring Sujatha in the title role, the film has Gemini Ganesan and Kamal Haasan and Sumithra playing other pivotal roles. It is a remake of the Bengali film ''Saat Pake Bandha'' (1963). Plot A rich woman named Lalitha loves and marries a professor Shankar. Since he is at a very low status compared to her family, Lalitha's mother continuously humiliates them on various occasions. Lalitha, on a day, separates from her husband, following an argument about her mother's deeds. Days after, when she decides to reunite with her husband, he has moved far away from there. The rest of the story deals with how they both reunite after a long period. Valampuri Somanathan
Valampuri Somanathan (c. 1928 – 21 June 2010) was a Tamil scholar and poet. He worked as a screenwriter in the Tamil film industry. In addition to screenwriting, he produced and directed a few films in Tamil. He was elected as president of Film Producers Guild of South India in 1987. History and profile ''Ananda Vikatan'' was started by Late Pudhoor Vaidyanadhaiyar in February 1926 as a monthly publication. Thengai Srinivasan (21 October 1937 – 9 November 1987) was an Indian actor who appeared in Tamil-language films and plays from the 1960s to the 1980s. He was given the prefix ''Thengai'' (coconut) after his role as a coconut-seller in the play ''Kal Manam''. Although originally a comedian, he also performed in other genres and enacted several lead and antagonistic roles. Early life Srinivasan was born to Rajavel Mudaliar (Chennai) and Subammal (Srivaikuntam in Tuticorin district) on 21 October 1937. He had two sisters.
