Xuân Hương Lake
Xuân Hương Lake () is an artificial freshwater lake located in the centre of Đà Lạt city, the provincial capital of Lâm Đồng province, Vietnam. Etymology The origin of the lake's name is currently disputed. It is named Xuân Hương either due to the fragrance of the florae commonly found beside the shores of the lake or to commemorate Hồ Xuân Hương, a Vietnamese poet in the 18th century. Before being renamed as Xuân Hương Lake in 1953 by Nguyễn Vỹ, the town's chairman then, it was called "Grand Lac" (, ) by the French Indochinese authorities. History Before 1919, Xuân Hương Lake was a part of the Cam Ly stream. In 1919, engineer Labbé built a dam as a project from the idea of envoy Cunhac, which was approved by then-Governor of French Indochina, Paul Doumer to constrict the flow of Cam Ly stream, which formed the first original lake. In 1923, the French Indochinese government of Da Lat town constructed another dam, creating another lake below the fi ...

A small part of West Lake is divided by Thanh Niên road to form Trúc Bạch Lake. Most of the lake is located within Tây Hồ District, named after the lake. History West Lake was created from a curved part of Red River (Asia), Red River and appeared in several Vietnamese legends. One legend suggests that West Lake was shaped after the battle between Lạc Long Quân and a Hồ ly tinh, hồ tinh (nine-tailed fox), and that's why the lake was once called "Fox Corpse Swamp" (). Another folk story claimed that original name of the lake was "Golden Buffalo Lake" (, or Sino-Vietnamese vocabulary: Hồ Kim Ngưu) because it was formed from struggle of a buffalo after the disappearance of her calf. Trúc Bạch Lake
Trúc Bạch Lake ( Vietnamese: ) is one of the many lakes in the city of Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. It is known outside Vietnam as the site where future United States politician John McCain landed during the Vietnam War after being shot down. Trúc Bạch Lake is located northwest of Hanoi's Old Quarter, immediately adjacent to the eastern shore of the city's largest lake, the West Lake (Hồ Tây), a former branch of the Red River whose west bank is nearby. Trúc Bạch Lake was separated from the West Lake by the construction of a narrow dike (Cố Ngự, "reinforcement", but later people read it incorrectly as Cổ Ngư) in the 17th century to allow raising fish. The inhabitants of the Truc Yen Village, located on the south shore of the newly formed lake, were in the business of making bamboo blinds and hence cultivated a small variety of bamboo. In 1957 and 1958, major Thanh Niên Road was built between the lakes. In 1730s, the Trịnh Lord Trịnh Giang had Trúc L ...
