The Triple Bend Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for horses age four years and older over a distance of seven furlongs on the dirt held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California in June. The race currently offers a purse of $100,000. History The event was inaugurated on the 10 June 1952 as the Lakes And Flowers Handicap and was won by Intent defeating Admiral Drake with Last Round finishing in third before a crowd of 42,004. In 1956 the event was shortened to 6 furlongs. The event reverted to its original distance of 7 furlongs in 1973. In 1979 the name was changed to Triple Bend Handicap honoring Frank McMahon's colt Triple Bend whose wins included the Santa Anita Handicap and who set a world record time of 1:19.80 for seven furlongs on dirt in winning the 1972 Los Angeles Handicap at Hollywood Park Racetrack. Santa Anita Park is a Thoroughbred racetrack in Arcadia, California, United States. It offers some of the prominent horse racing events in the United States during early fall, winter and in spring. Porterhouse (1951–1971) was an American Champion Thoroughbred racehorse. Background Bred by Liz Person and raced under her Llangollen Farm banner, Porterhouse was a son of the Argentine-bred Endeavour who also sired Corn Husker, Prove It and Pretense, three top runners who each won the Santa Anita Handicap. His dam was Red Stamp, a daughter of the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Bimelech. Conditioned for racing by Charlie Whittingham, Porterhouse was the forty-year-old trainer's first stakes winner and first Champion. Sol Kumin
Sol Kumin (born 13 May 1975) is an American business leader, Thoroughbred racehorse owner and philanthropist. In May 2018, he became the first owner since 1952 to have both a Kentucky Oaks and a Kentucky Derby winner in the same weekend. He was a co-owner of Justify; winner of the Triple Crown. In Kumin's first decade of horseracing, through his horses at Madaket Stables, he won 92 Grade One races, 12 Breeders Cups, the Preakness Stakes three times and the Kentucky Derby twice. McKinzie (foaled February 25, 2015) is a retired American Thoroughbred racehorse and breeding stallion who was a multiple graded stakes winner and came first or second in fourteen of his eighteen races. Joe Bravo (born September 10, 1971) is an American jockey in Thoroughbred horse race, thoroughbred horse racing. The son and grandson of jockeys, he began his professional career in Thoroughbred flat racing at Calder Race Course in Miami Gardens, Florida, at the latter end of 1988.
