Laindon railway station is on the London, Tilbury and Southend line, serving the town of Laindon in Essex, England. It is down the main line from London Fenchurch Street and is situated between to the west and to the east. Its three-letter station code is LAI. It was opened in 1888. The station and all trains serving it are currently operated by c2c. Description The main ticket office is located on Station Approach. It has two serving positions. A second smaller ticket office is located at the bottom of the stairs that lead to two of the platforms, though this is open only on weekdays. The station has three platforms. Platforms 1 and 2 are the two faces of an island platform, accessed via a footbridge from outside the main ticket office. Laindon
Laindon is a town and civil parish, which now forms part of the town of Basildon, in the Basildon district, in Essex, England. It is between Basildon and West Horndon. It was also an ancient parish. It was based on the manor of the same name. As of 2020, Laindon's population was 37,175. History The ancient Laindon parish included the chapelry of Basildon that became a civil parish in its own right in 1866. The parish included two detached pieces of coastal grazing land, one of which was on Canvey Island. It included a long finger of land north into the neighbouring parish of Great Burstead to include Laindon Common and the once larger and adjacent Frith Wood which the lord of the manor, the Bishop of London, emparked around 1260. This finger of land may have been the territory of Well Street Manor, which was mentioned in the Domesday Book. On 1 April 1937 the parish was abolished and merged with Billericay. Basildon Railway Station
Basildon railway station is on the London, Tilbury and Southend line, serving the town of Basildon, Essex. It is down the main line from London Fenchurch Street and is situated between to the west and to the east. Its three-letter station code is BSO. The station and all its trains are currently operated by c2c. History The "Pitsea direct" line of the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway was opened between East Horndon and Pitsea on 1 June 1888 and allowed trains between London and Southend to avoid the longer route via Tilbury, significantly reducing journey times. Laindon station opened with the new line in 1888 and Pitsea, originally opened in 1855, became a junction station. Basildon was designated a new town on 4 January 1949. Laindon and Pitsea stations fell within the new town boundary, albeit on the periphery. As was the case at other new towns, it took many years to deliver a railway station. West Horndon is a railway station on the London, Tilbury and Southend line, serving the village of West Horndon situated on the boundary of the boroughs of Brentwood and Thurrock, Essex. History The London Tilbury and Southend Railway Act 1882 required the station called East Horndon to be opened in what was then a remote rural location. The station was opened in 1886 by the London Tilbury and Southend Railway on a new direct route from to , and the original station structure survives.
