Pure Essence
Pure Essence were an American R&B band from Cincinnati, Ohio, originally consisting of Steve "Tuck" Walters, Jerome "Mouse" Richmond, Toby Rivers, Tony Coats, Dwight Trible, Larry Middleton, Antonio "L.A." Reid, and Kevin "Kayo" Roberson. The band released only one record, in 1976, and achieved limited regional fame during their tenure. But they received wider attention and acclaim nearly three decades later after one of their songs, "Third Rock", was sampled by producer/musician RJD2 on the track "Clean Living" (2004). The group's songs later appeared on the '' Chrome Children'' compilation album (2005), the '' Saints Row 2'' video game soundtrack (2008), and the '' Soul Cal: Funky Disco & Modern Soul, 1971–82'' compilation album (2012). A 2006 issue of ''The Fader'' called Pure Essence a "crucial soul-rock outfit" of the 1970s. Karyn White (album)
''Karyn White'' is the debut album by American R&B singer Karyn White. The album was released on September 6, 1988, by Warner Bros., and went to #1 on the R&B albums chart for seven weeks the following year. The album was certified Platinum by the RIAA on April 4, 1989. It gave her four hits, " The Way You Love Me", "Superwoman", "Love Saw It" and " Secret Rendezvous". The former three were #1 singles on the R&B chart, and all except "Love Saw It" were Top-10 successes on the Hot 100 ("Love Saw It" never appeared on the pop chart at all). A re-issue in late 1989 of "Secret Rendezvous" in the UK reached #22, as opposed to the original top 50 placing. "Superwoman" became her biggest hit there, reaching #11 in the UK Singles Chart. White co-wrote two songs on the album. Tender Lover
''Tender Lover'' is the second studio album by American R&B singer-songwriter and musician Babyface. The album was released on July 23, 1989. It is the follow-up to his debut '' Lovers'' (1986). It was his first album with SOLAR (Sound of Los Angeles Records) after the label entered into a distribution deal with Epic Records. In some regions of Europe, ''Tender Lover'' was released with a different cover picture and simply titled ''Babyface''. Background Babyface and fellow songwriter/producer Daryl Simmons first met each other as teenagers in Indianapolis, Indiana. The two played in a couple of bands together and later joined the funk outfit Manchild. The band recorded two albums before disbanding in the late 1970s. Cincinnati-based band Midnight Star came to perform in Indianapolis, which became good friends with Babyface and Simmons. ''GhostbustersII'' is a 1989 American supernatural comedy film directed and produced by Ivan Reitman, and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. The film stars Bill Murray, Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ramis, Rick Moranis, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts. It is the sequel to the 1984 film ''Ghostbusters'' and the second film in the ''Ghostbusters'' franchise. "Every Little Step" is a 1989 single by American singer Bobby Brown, written by L.A. Reid and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and released by MCA Records. Released as the fourth single on his second album ''Don't Be Cruel'' it reached number three on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, number one on the Hot Black Singles chart, and number six on the UK Singles Chart in 1989. The song also appears on Brown's remix album '' Dance!...Ya Know It!''. The single garnered Brown's first career Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 32nd Grammy Awards in 1990. The Jackson 5 (sometimes stylized as the Jackson 5ive, also known as the Jacksons) are an American pop band composed of members of the Jackson family. ''2300 Jackson Street'' is the sixteenth and final studio album by American group the Jacksons, and their final album for record label Epic, released in the United States on May 28, 1989. This is the group's first and only album produced without Michael and Marlon, both of whom left the group following the conclusion of their 1984 Victory Tour (although both appear on the title track). Sheena Easton
Sheena Shirley Easton (; born 27 April 1959) is a Scottish singer and actress. Easton came into the public eye in an episode of the first British musical reality television programme '' The Big Time: Pop Singer'', which recorded her attempts to gain a record contract and her eventual signing with EMI Records. Easton's first two singles, " Modern Girl" and " 9 to 5", both entered the UK Top Ten. She became one of the most successful British female performers of the 1980s. ''The Lover in Me'' is the ninth studio album by Scottish singer Sheena Easton. It was released in November 1988 and was her debut for MCA. The album has a more Urban/R&B sound than Easton's previous recordings due to the production by well-known acts such as L.A. Reid, Babyface and John "Jellybean" Benitez. The album's title track became a major hit, reaching #2 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and #15 on the UK Singles Chart. The album reached #44 on the US ''Billboard'' 200 and #30 in the UK Albums Chart, and was certified Gold by the RIAA.
