Kumaresh
Ganesh and Kumaresh are an Indian duo of violinists known for their contributions to the Carnatic music tradition of South India. The brothers are recognised as modern contemporary artists in "Sastriya Sangitam". They were honoured with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2018 for Carnatic Instrumental Music (Violin). Kumaresh's wife, Jayanthi Kumaresh, is a renowned Veena player. Early life Ganesh and Kumaresh were born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, in 1964 and 1967, respectively. Their father, Sri T.S. Rajagopalan, was employed with the Life Insurance Corporation of India. Their musical training began at home at the early ages of 3 and 2, respectively, under the guidance of their father, who also taught other students in the neighbourhood. Jayanthi Kumaresh
Jayanthi Kumaresh (born 1969) is an Indian classical musician best known for her mastery of the Saraswati veena. With a performing career of more than forty years, she has given concerts throughout India and abroad, recorded widely, and engaged in research and outreach dedicated to the instrument. Jayanthi holds a postgraduate degree in English literature and a doctorate from the University of Mysore for her analytical study of veena playing styles. She is the youngest veena player to receive an A-Top grading from All India Radio, the highest classification awarded to performing artists in India Her web series Cup O’ Carnatic (2016 – present) offers brief introductions to ragas and compositional forms and has received several million views . ''Dance Like a Man'' is a 2004 Indian English-language dance drama film directed by Pamela Rooks based on the play of the same name by Mahesh Dattani. The film stars Shobana, Arif Zakaria and Anoushka Shankar in her acting debut. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in English. Sangeet Natak Akademi Award
Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (IAST: Saṅgīta Nāṭaka Akādamī Puraskāra), also known as the Akademi Puraskar, is an award given by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama. It is the highest Indian recognition given to people in the field of performing arts. In 2003, the award consisted of Rs. 50,000, a citation, an '' angavastram'' (a shawl), and a ''tamrapatra'' (a brass plaque). Since 2009, the cash prize has been increased to ₹1,00,000. The awards are given in the categories of music, dance, theatre, other traditional arts and puppetry, and for contribution/scholarship in performing arts. Shakti is a Fusion music, fusion band founded by English guitarist John McLaughlin (musician), John McLaughlin and Indian violin, violinist L. Shankar, L.Shankar with percussionists Zakir Hussain (musician), Zakir Hussain (on tabla) and Vikku Vinayakram (on ghatam). Initially formed in 1973 under the name “Turiyananda Sangit” (a name coined by Sri Chinmoy that translates into english as “The pinnacle of delight in music”), with a lineup consisting of McLaughlin, L. Shankar, L.Shankar, Ramnad V. Raghavan (on mridangam) and Eve McLaughlin on Tanpura & Shruti box. Eve McLaughlin left the project, and Zakir Hussain (musician), Zakir Hussain was added on tabla and the group name changed to “Shakti” (meaning "creative intelligence, beauty, and power.") as the band wanted a name that “listeners in the West could relate to”. ''This Moment'' is the third studio album by world fusion band Shakti. It is the first release under the Shakti name in 46 years, following the 1977 release of '' Natural Elements.'' Carnatic music (known as or in the Dravidian languages) is a system of music commonly associated with South India, including the modern Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and southern Odisha. It is one of three main subgenres of Indian classical music that evolved from ancient Hindu texts and traditions, particularly the Samaveda. (The other two are Hindustani music and Odissi music.) Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam
Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, also called the Sri Kanchi Matham or the Moolamnaya Sarvagnya Peetham, is a Hindu religious center of Vedic learning, located in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. It is located near the Kamakshi Amman Temple of the Shaktism tradition, which also contains a shrine dedicated to the final resting place of the Advaita Vedanta teacher Adi Shankara.
