Kirkdale is a district of Liverpool, Merseyside, England, and a Liverpool City Council Ward (country subdivision), ward that covers both Kirkdale and Vauxhall, Liverpool, Vauxhall. At the United Kingdom Census 2011, 2011 Census, the population was 16,115. Kirkdale is bordered by Bootle to the north, Walton, Merseyside, Walton and Everton, Liverpool, Everton to the east and Vauxhall to the south. Kirkdale Railway Station
Kirkdale railway station is a railway station in Kirkdale, Liverpool, England, located to the north of the city centre on the Northern Line of the Merseyrail network. It acts as the interchange between the branches to Kirkby and Ormskirk; these lines diverge just north of the station. Kirkdale TMD train maintenance depot, the largest depot on the Merseyrail Network, is located adjacent to the station. History The station originally opened as Bootle Lane was built by the Liverpool, Ormskirk and Preston Railway and Liverpool and Bury Railway at the start of their joint line into Liverpool, opening in 1848. Kirkdale TMD
Kirkdale TMD is a traction maintenance depot located beside Kirkdale railway station in north Liverpool, England. The depot is the largest on the Merseyrail network; it is located on the Northern Line and is used primarily for stabling units, heavy maintenance and cleaning units both internally and externally. It is owned by Network Rail and operated by Stadler. Operation of Kirkdale depot was transferred from Merseyrail to Stadler Rail Service UK in October 2017. The depot is Stadler Rail's United Kingdom headquarters and the majority of the company's UK workforce will be based at this site. At Kirkdale, Stadler Rail is responsible for their maintenance setup and staff at the Norwich Crown Point maintenance depot, Glasgow Subway and the future Tyne and Wear Metro maintenance and staff. Kirkdale ward was an electoral division of Liverpool City Council centred on the Kirkdale and Vauxhall areas of Liverpool. Background The ward was first established in 1895 before being dissolved in 1952, it was later reconstituted for the 2004 Municipal elections and again made defunct following boundary changes in 2023. 2004 boundaries A review by the Boundary Committee for England recommended that the council was formed of a reduced number of 90 members elected from 30 wards. The reconstituted Kirkdale ward was formed from most of the former Vauxhall and Melrose wards and a small part of Everton ward. The ward was part of the Liverpool Riverside Parliamentary constituency. Kirkdale, North Yorkshire
Kirkdale ("church valley") is a valley in North Yorkshire, England, which along with Sleightholmedale makes up the larger Bransdale and carries the Hodge Beck from its moorland source near Cockayne to the River Dove and onto the River Rye in the Vale of Pickering. Corallian Limestone which outcrops on the hills surrounding the Vale of Pickering runs across the region, and this appears as an aquifer in Kirkdale swallowing most of the water from Hodge Beck, which reappears further downstream. During summer months the river bed often runs dry as most of the water takes a subterranean passage. Kirkdale is noted for a bone cave, an ancient animal den, into which scavengers such as hyenas dragged the remains of many other animals. Numerous bones can still be found in the cave today. Galloway
Galloway ( ; ; ) is a region in southwestern Scotland comprising the counties of Scotland, historic counties of Wigtownshire and Kirkcudbrightshire.
