Abbot Kinney
Abbot Kinney (November 16, 1850 in New Brunswick, New Jersey – November 4, 1920 in Santa Monica, California) was an American Real estate development, developer, conservation movement, conservationist, water supply expert and tree expert. Kinney is best known for his "Venice Canal Historic District, Venice of America" development in Los Angeles. Early life Kinney's family moved to Washington, D.C., and became known in politics. His aunt's husband was United States Senate, Senator James Dixon of Connecticut. At the age of 16, the Kinney went to Europe, where he studied in Heidelberg, Paris and Zürich and became fluent in six languages. A walking tour of Italy took him to Venice and the Italian Riviera. Returning to Washington in 1869 he joined the Maryland National Guard and in 1873 was able to join a U.S. Geological Survey team to map the Sioux reservations of the Dakotas. Jay Kinney (born 1950) is an American author, editor, and former underground cartoonist. Kinney has been noted for "adding new dimensions to the political comic" in the underground comix press of the 1970s and '80s. Career Kinney was a member, along with Skip Williamson, Jay Lynch and R. Crumb, of the original '' Bijou Funnies'' crew. Matthew John Kinney (born December 16, 1976) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He spent with the Saitama Seibu Lions of the Nippon Professional Baseball (MLB). Kinney is a graduate of Bangor High School. Kinney and his Little League team was featured in the Stephen King essay "Head Down", featured in King's Nightmares and Dreamscapes collection. Joseph Robbins Kinney (April 15, 1839 – November 7, 1919) was a merchant, notary public and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented the Yarmouth district in the House of Commons of Canada from 1882 to 1887 as a Liberal member. The son of William Kinney (1809–1890) and Orpah Robbins, he was born in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. In 1860, he married Ada E. Ritchie. Kinney was consular agent for the United States. He represented Yarmouth County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1878 to 1882. He ran unsuccessfully for reelection to the House of Commons in 1887 and 1891. John Kinney (outlaw)
John Kinney (c. 1847 – August 25, 1919) was an outlaw of the Old West, who formed the John Kinney Gang. Kinney was born in Hampshire County, Massachusetts around 1847. His family later moved to Iowa, and in 1865, after the American Civil War, Civil War ended, Kinney enlisted in the US Army. At the rank of sergeant, Kinney was mustered out of the army in 1873. He settled in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, and for reasons unknown organized a gang, which began committing acts of robbery and cattle rustling. Jesse Evans (outlaw), Jesse Evans was one of the early members. On December 31, 1875, Kinney, Evans, Jim McDaniels and Pony Diehl entered a Western saloon, saloon in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where they became involved in a brawl with US Cavalry, Cavalry soldiers from Fort Seldon.
