Kingman Reef
Kingman Reef () is a largely submerged, uninhabited, triangle-shaped reef, geologically an atoll, east-west and north-south, in the North Pacific Ocean, roughly halfway between the Hawaiian Islands and American Samoa. It has an area of 3 hectares (0.03 km2; 7.4 acres) and is an unincorporated territory of the United States in Oceania. The reef is administered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service as the Kingman Reef National Wildlife Refuge. It was claimed by the US in 1859 and later used briefly as a stopover for commercial Pacific flying boat routes in the 1930s going to New Zealand; however, the route was changed with a different stopover. It was administered by the Navy from 1934 to 2000 and thereafter by the Fish and Wildlife Service. It has since become a marine protected area. In the 19th century, it was noted as a maritime hazard, earning the name Hazard Rocks, and is known to have been hit once in 1876. In the 21st century, it has been noted for its marin ...

Poisson-Dirichlet Distribution
In probability theory, Poisson-Dirichlet distributions are probability distributions on the set of nonnegative, non-increasing sequences with sum 1, depending on two parameters \alpha \in [0,1) and \theta \in (-\alpha, \infty). It can be defined as follows. One considers independent random variables (Y_n)_ such that Y_n follows the beta distribution of parameters 1-\alpha and \theta+n \alpha. Then, the Poisson-Dirichlet distribution PD(\alpha, \theta) of parameters \alpha and \theta is the law of the random decreasing sequence containing Y_1 and the products Y_n \prod_^(1-Y_k). This definition is due to Jim Pitman and Marc Yor. It generalizes Kingman's law, which corresponds to the particular case \alpha = 0. Number theory Patrick Billingsley has proven the following result: if n is a uniform random integer in \, if k \geq 1 is a fixed integer, and if p_1 \geq p_2 \geq \dots \geq p_k are the k largest prime divisors of n (with p_j arbitrarily defined if n has le ...

G/G/1 Queue
In queueing theory, a discipline within the mathematical theory of probability, the G/G/1 queue represents the queue length in a system with a single server where interarrival times have a general (meaning arbitrary) distribution and service times have a (different) general distribution. The evolution of the queue can be described by the Lindley equation. The system is described in Kendall's notation where the ''G'' denotes a general distribution for both interarrival times and service times and the 1 that the model has a single server. Different interarrival and service times are considered to be independent, and sometimes the model is denoted GI/GI/1 to emphasise this. The numerical solution for the GI/G/1 can be obtained by discretizing the time. Waiting time Kingman's formula gives an approximation for the mean waiting time in a G/G/1 queue. Lindley's integral equation is a relationship satisfied by the stationary waiting time distribution which can be solved using the Wiene ...

Kingman's Formula
In queueing theory, a discipline within the mathematical theory of probability, Kingman's formula, also known as the VUT equation, is an approximation for the mean waiting time in a G/G/1 queue. The formula is the product of three terms which depend on utilization (U), variability (V) and service time (T). It was first published by John Kingman in his 1961 paper ''The single server queue in heavy traffic''. It is known to be generally very accurate, especially for a system operating close to saturation. Statement of formula Kingman's approximation states: :\mathbb E(W_q) \approx \left( \frac \right) \left( \frac\right) \tau where \mathbb E(W_q) is the mean waiting time, ''τ'' is the mean service time (i.e. ''μ'' = 1/''τ'' is the service rate), ''λ'' is the mean arrival rate, ''ρ'' = ''λ''/''μ'' is the utilization, ''ca'' is the coefficient of variation In probability theory and statistics, the coefficient of variation (CV), also known as normalized r ...

M/G/k Queue
In queueing theory, a discipline within the mathematical theory of probability, an M/G/k queue is a queue model where arrivals are Markovian (modulated by a Poisson process), service times have a general distribution and there are ''k'' servers. The model name is written in Kendall's notation, and is an extension of the M/M/c queue, where service times must be exponentially distributed and of the M/G/1 queue with a single server. Most performance metrics for this queueing system are not known and remain an open problem. Model definition A queue represented by a M/G/''k'' queue is a stochastic process whose state space is the set , where the value corresponds to the number of customers in the queue, including any being served. Transitions from state ''i'' to ''i'' + 1 represent the arrival of a new customer: the times between such arrivals have an exponential distribution with parameter λ. Transitions from state ''i'' to ''i'' − 1 represent the departu ...

Kingman Station
Kingman station is an Amtrak train station located in the historic Kingman Railroad Depot in Kingman, Arizona, United States. Amtrak's ''Southwest Chief'' trains stop at the Kingman station once daily in each direction. Kingman is also the transfer point for dedicated, guaranteed Amtrak Thruway service to/from Laughlin, Nevada and Las Vegas, Nevada. This station has an enclosed waiting room, but is unstaffed. There are no ticket agents or Quik-Trak kiosks on site. Of the eight Arizona stations served by Amtrak (in 2020), Kingman was the third-busiest in fiscal year 2020, boarding or detraining 5,536 passengers in 2020. History The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) built the depot in 1907. The station's elevation is above sea level. The station has been a contributing property to the Kingman Commercial Historic District, which has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1986. and Like many depots constructed by the ATSF, the building exhibits c ...

Kingman (British Horse)
Kingman (foaled 26 February 2011) is a champion British Thoroughbred racehorse who was the 2014 European Horse of the Year after winning the Irish 2000 Guineas, St. James's Palace Stakes, Sussex Stakes and Prix Jacques le Marois. He is now a successful sire. The horse is owned by Khalid Abdullah and was trained by John Gosden. Racing career 2013: two-year-old season Kingman's career began with a six-length win in a maiden race at Newmarket under jockey Ryan Moore. Moore was impressed by the colt but called the ante-post price for the 2000 Guineas of 10/1 an overreaction. His next race was the Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown Park Racecourse this time with Khalid Abdullah's new retained jockey James Doyle on board. Kingman won by two lengths from Godolphin's colt Emirates Flyer. Following the win his price for the 2,000 Guineas was again cut. Gosden shared plans for a run in the Dewhurst Stakes but these were scrapped following a bone chip. 2014: three-year-old season F ...

Kingman (horse)
Kingman (1888–1893) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse owned by Kinzea Stone of Georgetown, Kentucky and the winner of the 1891 Kentucky Derby, Phoenix Stakes and Latonia Derby. He holds the record for the slowest winning time ever recorded at a Kentucky Derby, at 2:52. Kingman was ridden in the Derby by Isaac Burns Murphy and was considered one of the best prospects for winning the 1891 American Derby. However, Kingman finished third in that race and won few races of importance thereafter. Kingman was bought by John E.
