Masahiro Shinoda
was a Japanese film director, whose career spanned over four decades and covered a wide range of genres and styles. He was one of the central figures of the Japanese New Wave during the 1960s and 1970s. He directed films for Shochiku Studio from 1960 to 1965, before turning to Independent film, independent cinema from 1966 onward. His film style was characterized by Social exclusion, socially marginalized characters, many of whom turn to crime or suicide, and meticulous attention to pictorial beauty. He drew on traditional Japanese fiction and theater and some of his films bear the influence of Kenji Mizoguchi, whom he admired. Ichirō Sugai
was a Japanese actor and film director who appeared in more than 300 films in his 45 years spanning career, working with directors such as Kaneto Shindō, Kenji Mizoguchi and Kōzaburō Yoshimura. Biography Sugai was born in Rukahara (now Higashiyama Ward), Kyoto. He left junior high school prematurely and entered the Kyoto section of the Nikkatsu film company in 1925. In the 1930s, he first switched to Shinkō Kinema before founding the actors group Dai-ichi kyōdan and becoming a freelance actor in 1939. Kōji Mitsui
was a Japanese actor. He appeared in more than 150 films from 1925 to 1975, including 29 of ''Kinema Junpo''’s annual Top-10 winners and three of its 10 best Japanese films of all time. Kazuya Kosaka
was a Japanese singer and actor. Biography He was born in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Tokyo. He attended Seijo Gakuen High School, out of which he dropped out. Kosaka was a classmate and close friend of Tsutomu Hata, a former member of the House of Representatives. Yūsuke Kawazu
was a Japanese actor. Life and career Kawazu was born in Tokyo on 12 May 1935. While still a student at Keio University, Kawazu signed with Shochiku in 1958 and debuted in Keisuke Kinoshita, Kinoshita's ''The Eternal Rainbow''. He became one of the studio's leading young stars, notably headlining Nagisa Ōshima, Ōshima's ''Cruel Story of Youth'' in 1960. In later years he turned to character roles in film and television, also writing several books and establishing a reputation in calligraphy, painting, ceramics, and cooking. On 26 February 2022, he died of chronic heart failure at age 86.
