Killamarsh is a village and civil parish in North East Derbyshire, England, close to Derbyshire’s border with South Yorkshire. It forms part of the Sheffield urban area and lies about 8 miles south-east of the centre of Sheffield. Killamarsh is surrounded by, in a clockwise direction from the north, Rother Valley Country Park, the village of Wales, Kiveton, Woodall, Harthill, Barlborough, Spinkhill, Renishaw, Eckington, and the (historically Derbyshire) Sheffield suburbs of Oxclose, Halfway and Holbrook. Killamarsh Central Railway Station
Killamarsh Central is the previous railway station in Killamarsh, Derbyshire, England. Ambiguity Three stations served the village, all of which started as plain "Killamarsh": * on the former Midland Railway "Old Road" from to , * on the former LD&ECR's Beighton Branch, and * Killamarsh Central which is the subject of this article. History The station was opened in 1892 by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway when it began to build south into Derbyshire. Despite its name Killamarsh Central Station was on the western edge of Killamarsh as were all of the three stations in the village. It was renamed 'Central' because it was the centre of the three stations which served the village and also because it was on the old Great Central Main Line which ran between London Marylebone and Manchester via . Killamarsh West Railway Station
Killamarsh West is a former railway station in Halfway, South Yorkshire, England. History A station was opened on the site by the North Midland Railway on its line between and Rotherham which became known as the "Old Road". It was closed in 1843 by George Hudson during a period of financial difficulty. A new station was built by the Midland Railway in 1873. Although locally it was commonly known as Killamarsh Midland, the name was not officially adopted. It was renamed Killamarsh West by British Railways in 1950. It was of typical Midland design, brick built and timber, with a foot crossing between the platforms. The station closed in 1954. The line is now part of the current Midland Main Line. Killamarsh Murders
In the evening of 18 September 2021, Damien Bendall murdered his partner Terri Haris, her two children Lacey and John-Paul Bennet, as well as Lacey's friend Connie Gent at a residential property on Chandos Crescent in Killamarsh, Derbyshire, an outer suburb of Sheffield, South Yorkshire. He had also raped Lacey as she was dying. After being arrested the next morning, Bendall was charged with four counts of murder and later rape of a girl under 13 in connection with the incident. He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced to a whole-life prison term on 21 December 2022. Woodall, South Yorkshire
Woodall is a small hamlet in the civil parish of Harthill with Woodall situated in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham, South Yorkshire England. In the 2001 government census the parish as a whole had 1,909 inhabitants. It is home to a Welcome Break service station of the same name. History A once tiny settlement consisting of but a few farms and barn buildings, over the 20th and 21st centuries the hamlet grew substantially and consequently is now a quiet residential area popular with commuters to the nearby town of Rotherham and the city of Sheffield. The growth was in part due to the opening of Kiveton Park coal pit in 1864, the slag heap of which can still clearly be seen to the North-East of the hamlet. Spinkhill is a small village in North East Derbyshire, England. It is approximately one mile south of the nearest town, Killamarsh, and half a mile north-east of Renishaw. It is home to the Church of the Immaculate Conception and its associated Catholic Primary School. Spinkhill is also home to Mount St Mary's College, a large private school. Harthill, South Yorkshire
Harthill is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham (part of South Yorkshire, England), on the border with Derbyshire. It lies between Killamarsh and Thorpe Salvin, and is located at approximately , at an elevation of around 110 metres above sea level. In the 2001 census, the civil parish of Harthill with Woodall had a population of 1,909, reducing slightly to 1,879 at the 2011 Census. Harthill is traditionally an agricultural village, although there is also a history of quarrying whetstones for use in knife-sharpening. Eckington is a town and civil parish in North East Derbyshire, England. It is 7 miles (11 km) northeast of Chesterfield and 9 miles (14 km) southeast of Sheffield, on the border with South Yorkshire. It lies on the B6052 and B6056 roads close to the A6135 for Sheffield and Junction 30 of the M1.
