Kicking Up The Dust
''Kicking Up the Dust'' is the sixth studio album by the English band Cast, released on 21 April 2017. Produced by Al Groves, it is their first album recorded with bassist Jay Lewis, replacing founding member Pete Wilkinson who left the band in 2014. It also marks the return to recording for drummer Keith O'Neill, who had rejoined with the other members when the band reunited in 2010 but was absent from sessions for previous album '' Troubled Times'' due to his work as a tour manager. Cast are an English indie rock band formed in Liverpool in 1992 by John Power (vocals, guitar) and Peter Wilkinson (backing vocals, bass) after Power left The La's and Wilkinson's former band Shack had split. Following early line-ups with different guitarists and drummers, Liam "Skin" Tyson (guitar) and Keith O'Neill (drums) joined Cast in 1993. Emerging from the Britpop movement of the mid-1990s, Cast signed to Polydor Records and their debut album ''All Change'' (1995) became the highest selling debut album for the label. Further commercial success continued with the albums ''Mother Nature Calls'' (1997) and '' Magic Hour'' (1999), however a departure in sound on the band's fourth album ''Beetroot'' (2001) was met by a poor critical and commercial reaction and contributed to the band's split two weeks after its release. Al Groves
Alistair Austin Rothwell Groves is a British record producer, currently based in Liverpool, England. He is renowned for his focus on guitar based popular music. He works at The Motor Museum, Liverpool and is a guest lecturer in music production at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. Career Groves took his first steps into music production whilst a student at Liverpool John Moore's University in around 2005. After success in setting up a small, basic recording studio in his student house, an opportunity came about to create and manage Sandhills Studio, an independent recording studio in the Vauxhall district of Liverpool. ''Troubled Times'' is the fifth album by the English band Cast, released digitally on 2 November 2011. It is the first album they recorded since reuniting in 2010 for shows celebrating the 15th anniversary of their debut, '' All Change''. It is also the last album recorded with founding bassist Pete Wilkinson, who left the band in 2014. Jay Lewis (musician)
James "Jay" Lewis is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Huyton, Liverpool. He is best known as the frontman of Liverpool band Cracatilla and current guitarist with the Zutons also bassist for the band Cast, and as lead guitarist during comeback shows for seminal Liverpool group The La's. Cracatilla Lewis first came to prominence as the lead singer and guitarist in Cracatilla, a trio he had formed with school friend Dave Penswick on bass and neighbor Louis Fitzpatrick on drums. Named after Lewis' mishearing of the volcano Krakatoa, the band released their debut single "What Do I Know" in August 2002. This was followed by the double A-side "You've Got It All"/"Everyman" on 2 June 2003. Peter Wilkinson (bass Guitarist)
Leslie Peter Wilkinson (born 9 May 1969 in Liverpool) in an English bass player and singer-songwriter, formerly of Shack, Cast, and Echo & the Bunnymen. He is currently concentrating on his Aviator project and has recorded and released an album with Michael Blyth as Michael Blyth and the Wild Braid, getting 4/5 star reviews in ''Uncut/Mojo/Maverick'' and ''Classic Rock''. Biography Although having taught himself to play bass at an early age by listening to new wave bands such as The Stranglers and Siouxsie and the Banshees, Wilkinson took an interest in jazz and went on to tour the jazz circuit across the north west of England and North Wales. He gained a college diploma in the genre before deciding that he would never be able to move out of the small clubs he was already playing whilst playing jazz. John Power (singer-songwriter)
John Timothy Power (born 14 September 1967) is an English singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist. He was the frontman of 1990s Indie rock band Cast, and the bassist and backing vocalist for The La's from 1986 to 1991. Following the dissolution of Cast in 2001, Power embarked on a solo career. In 2005, he briefly reunited with the La's, who split up again without releasing new material. Cast reformed in 2010, releasing the album '' Troubled Times'' in March 2012, followed by '' Kicking Up the Dust'' in April 2017. Power was born in Allerton, Liverpool. The La's Having previously struggled to find a permanent bass player since their formation, the La's recruited then 18-year-old John Power in July 1986 after he met Mike Badger at a course for unemployed musicians. Liam Tyson
Liam Sean "Skin" Tyson (born 7 September 1969 in Liverpool) is an English guitarist, best known as the lead guitarist for Cast. Tyson's first band, Pyramid Dream, gigged regularly around Liverpool in the late 1980s and early '90s. The band released one cassette album and appeared on compilation LP "One Summer In Liverpool". In 1991, the band toured Russia as part of a cultural exchange tour organised by Liverpool City Council. Tyson didn't contribute greatly to the compositions of this band, however his contribution lying in "total dedication to his instrument". In 1994 Tyson joined Cast, the band formed by former La's bass player John Power. The band went on to sign to Polydor and released 3 studio albums, All Change, Mother Nature Calls and Magic Hour.
