Kentucky Route
State highways in Kentucky are maintained by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, which classifies routes as either primary or secondary. Some routes, such as Kentucky Route 80, are both primary and secondary, with only a segment of the route listed as part of the primary system. Despite the name, there is no difference in signage between primary and secondary routes. All of the Interstate Highways in Kentucky, Interstates and parkways in Kentucky, parkways are also primary, but only parts of the U.S. Highways in Kentucky are (though every mainline U.S. Highway is at least partially primary). Grayson, KY
Grayson is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Carter County, Kentucky, United States, on U.S. Route 60 and Interstate 64 in the state's northeastern region. It is approximately 21 miles west of Ashland. Within the city limits, the population was 4,217 at the 2010 census. Along with Carter County, the city is closely associated with the nearby Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area and is often erroneously included in the MSA being just 9 miles west of the MSA's western boundary. The city has grown in size substantially since the opening of Interstate 64 in 1975 through Carter County. Immediately afterwards, Grayson experienced several years of commercial sector growth, mainly to serve the Interstate 64 traffic. Since 1990, the city has also seen significant growth in the residential sector with the Interstate making for a faster trip to and from Ashland. Mountain Parkway
The Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway, commonly known as the Mountain Parkway, is a freeway in eastern Kentucky. The route runs from Interstate 64 (I-64) just east of Winchester southeast for to a junction with U.S. Route 460 (US 460) near Salyersville. The first , beginning at the western terminus in Winchester is a four-lane freeway with only minor design standard differences from an Interstate Highway, while the remainder is a limited access super two highway. History The Mountain Parkway was built in the early 1960s and opened in January 1963 as Kentucky's second toll road. The route was originally signed only as the "Mountain Parkway". In the late 1970s, the road was officially renamed the Bert T. Combs Parkway name was added. This was in honor the governor from the mountains who spearheaded construction of the highway. Kentucky Route 30
Kentucky Route 30 (KY 30) is an east–west state highway in Kentucky managed by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. It goes through Laurel, Jackson, Owsley, Breathitt, Magoffin Counties. Route description KY 30 begins at an intersection with the Hal Rogers Parkway in London, and goes north as a divided highway until it becomes an undivided two-lane highway about a mile up the road. The road is a recently constructed standard highway with 11 ft wide lanes and shoulders on both sides of the road, with a speed limit of 55 mph. The road continues through Greenmount into Jackson County. The road then goes through the hilly terrain of Jackson County, and runs past Annville and reaches US 421 at Tyner. At this point, the road is no longer a standard highway and runs as a concurrency to the northern part of Tyner, where it goes east towards Mummie. Greenup, Kentucky
Greenup is a home rule-class city in and the county seat of Greenup County, Kentucky, United States, located at the confluence of the Little Sandy River with the Ohio River. The population was 1,095 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Huntington–Ashland metropolitan area. History Greenup was laid out in 1803 and 1804 by Robert Johnson, a pioneer and legislator who owned the land. Upon the formation of Greenup County (named for the former congressman Christopher Greenup, who later served as governor) out of land separated from Mason County, Johnson's settlement was chosen to be the seat of government and adopted the name "Greenupsburg". Ohio State Route 253
State Route 253 (SR 253) is a very short east–west state highway in the southern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. With an overall length of just , the majority of SR 253 is a part of the Jesse Stuart Memorial Bridge, which crosses over the Ohio River near Franklin Furnace, Ohio. The western terminus of SR 253 is at about the midspan of the bridge, where it crosses the Kentucky State Line and becomes Kentucky Route 10 (KY 10). The eastern terminus of the highway is at a diamond interchange with U.S. Route 52 (US 52) near the eastern landing of the Ohio River crossing. The current SR 253 was established in the late 1980s. However, a different route with the same number existed in the Medina vicinity from the early 1920s until the late 1950s. Vanceburg, KY
Vanceburg is a home rule-class city in Lewis County, Kentucky, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 1,428 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Lewis County. Vanceburg is part of the Maysville Micropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Vanceburg is located in northern Lewis County on the south bank of the Ohio River. Kentucky Route 9/ 10, the AA Highway, runs through the southern part of the city, leading west to Tollesboro. Kentucky Route 8 is a east–west state highway divided into two distinct segments across northern Kentucky. The western terminus of the route is at KY 237 near Francisville, Kentucky, Francisville. The eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 23 in South Portsmouth, Kentucky, South Portsmouth. The two distinct segments of this route were not meant to be connected together. KY 8 from its west end in Boone County to Augusta in Bracken County is designated as a part of an identified corridor for bikes named the Ramblin' River Tour by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). Kentucky Route 1 (KY 1) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It originates at a junction with Kentucky Route 3, KY 3, one mile (1.6 km) east of Cadmus, Kentucky, Cadmus in Lawrence County, Kentucky, Lawrence County. The route continues through Grayson, Kentucky, Grayson in Carter County, Kentucky, Carter County to terminate at U.S. Highway 23, US 23 in Greenup, Kentucky, Greenup in Greenup County, Kentucky, Greenup County.
