The ''Kenora Miner and News'' is a weekly publication based in Kenora, Ontario. The ''Miner and News'' is delivered free throughout the region every Thursday. The ''Miner and News'' is owned by The Klein Group. The paper was formerly known as the ''Kenora Daily Miner and News''. In April 2019 the Miner ceased publishing on Tuesdays, prompting the removal of the word "Daily" from its name. In January 2020, the Miner moved to a weekly publishing scheduling, amalgamating with the Lake of the Woods Enterprise. In 2024, Postmedia announced the sale of the newspaper to the Klein Group, a Manitoba-based company owned by Kevin Klein. Kenora
Kenora (), previously named Rat Portage (), is a city situated on the Lake of the Woods in Ontario, Canada, close to the Manitoba boundary, and about east of Winnipeg by road. It is the seat of Kenora District. The history of the name extends beyond the time of French settlers arriving in the region. The name Rat Portage had its origin in the Ojibwe language, Ojibwe name ''Wazhashk-Onigam'', which, roughly translated, means portage to the country of the muskrats. A shortened and somewhat corrupted version, Rat Portage, was adopted by the Hudson's Bay Company in naming their post, then located on Old Fort Island on the Winnipeg River. When the post was moved to the mainland and a town grew up around it, the name Rat Portage was assumed by the community. Kevin Elvis Klein is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. A member of the Progressive Conservative Party, Klein has served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba and is a former City of Winnipeg councilor. Political career Klein served as the Winnipeg City Councillor for Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood from 2018 to 2022. Klein also ran in the 2022 Winnipeg mayoral election, placing third. Joseph Pattulo Earngey (February 9, 1872 – May 26, 1939) was a Canadian newspaper publisher and politician."J. P. Earngey, Kenora, Dies". ''The Globe and Mail'', May 27, 1939.
