Kendall is an unincorporated area and census-designated place in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. At the 2020 census, the area had a population of 80,241. History Much of what is now Kendall was purchased from the State of Florida in 1883 by the Florida Land and Mortgage Company. It was named for Henry John Broughton Kendall, a director of the company, who moved to the area in the 1900s to manage the company's land. As the land was not open to homesteading, development was slow well into the 20th century. A post office opened in 1914, and the first school opened in 1929. After the end of the land boom in 1926, some residents left. Two Seminole camps were in the Kendall area, and Seminoles continued to live there into the 1940s. Kendall is a census-designated place (CDP) in Whatcom County, Washington, United States. The population was 191 at the 2010 census. History Kendall was founded in 1887 by F.B. Hardmen. It was named for the settler Carthage Kendall. Limestone quarrying featured in the area for at least 75 years. A seam of high-quality stone was in the flank of Sumas Mountain. The limestone was used for riprap, cement, and construction. The Milwaukee Road railroad had a spur from Bellingham to move the blocks. Abandoned tracks crossing the highway near the Pair-o-dice Tavern mark the location of the mine. Kendall Mountain is a small ski area located at the town of Silverton, Colorado. It was developed by the Grand Imperial Hotel in the 1950s and opened for business in the early 1960s. In 1983, the area was found to be operating without a permit and remained closed until the late 1990s. It advertises itself as "the cheapest ski area in the West." The area has run with a single tow rope for most of its operation but upgraded to a double chairlift in 2006, purchased from the Quechee Ski Area in Vermont. Kendall Peak is a mountain located on the county line separating King County and Kittitas County of Washington state. It is within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness on the crest of the Cascade Range. Kendall Peak is situated two miles northeast of Snoqualmie Pass on land managed by Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Precipitation runoff on the east side of the mountain drains into Silver Creek and makes its way to the Columbia River via Yakima River, whereas the west side of the mountain drains into the South Fork Snoqualmie River via Commonwealth Creek.
