Ken McKenzie
Ken McKenzie (August 19, 1923April 9, 2003) was a Canadian newspaper publisher and sports journalist. He served as publicity director of the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1946 to 1963. In 1947, he published the first NHL press and radio guide, and co-founded ''The Hockey News'' with Will Cote and C$383.81. McKenzie bought out his partner and later sold an 80 per cent share of ''The Hockey News'' for a reported $4-million in 1973. He stayed on as its publisher and a columnist until 1981. He also published ''Canadian Football News'', ''Ontario Golf News'', and the magazines ''Hockey Pictorial'' and ''Hockey World''. McKenzie is the namesake of three separate ice hockey awards; the Ken McKenzie Trophy of the Central Hockey League, the Ken McKenzie Trophy of the International Hockey League, and the Ken McKenzie Award of the American Hockey League. Kenneth Purvis MacKenzie (March 10, 1934 – December 14, 2023) was a Canadian relief pitcher in Major League Baseball. He played with the Milwaukee Braves (1960–61), New York Mets (1962–63), St. Louis Cardinals (1963), San Francisco Giants (1964), and Houston Astros (1965). Early life A member of Yale's Class of 1956, MacKenzie lettered in hockey and baseball at Yale University. He returned to Yale as head baseball coach in 1969 and held that post for ten seasons. The native of Gore Bay, Ontario, threw left-handed, batted right-handed, and was listed as tall and (13 stone, 3 pounds). Career MacKenzie signed with the Braves in 1956 and began working his way through the club's farm system, becoming a relief specialist in 1959, his third professional baseball season. After working in 14 games for Milwaukee in brief trials in 1960 and 1961, his contract was sold to the expansion Mets on October 11, 1961, one day after that year's expansion draft. Kenneth Norman MacKenzie (born March 1964) is a Canadian-born business executive known for his tenure as chairman of BHP, a multinational mining company, and as the former CEO of Amcor, an international packaging company. Ken McKenzie (1865–1917) was an Australian rules footballer for the Port Adelaide Football Club. He captained the club for eight years from 1890 to 1894 and 1896–1898. His two brothers, Alec and Jack also played for Port Adelaide. Football Ken McKenzie had a successful career with the Port Adelaide Football Club. Ken McKenzie (rugby League)
Kenneth John McKenzie (1926–1998) was an Australian rugby league footballer who played in the 1940s and 1950s. McKenzie was later an Administrator at the St. George Dragons. Playing career McKenzie joined St. George soon after his discharge from the Australian Army in 1946. He went on to play 95 games for Saints in all grades, was captain of Reserve Grade for many years and actually captained the First Grade team on 25 April 1952 in a game against Parramatta. He retired from football in 1952 after suffering recurring knee cartilage problems. Administrative career Upon retirement from playing, Ken McKenzie (who had a background in accountancy) became the club's Auditor and well as being selected on the club Committee.
