Battle Of Katia
The Battle of Katia, also known as the Affair of Qatia by the British, was an engagement fought east of the Suez Canal and north of El Ferdan Station, in the vicinity of Katia and Oghratina, on 23 April 1916 during the Defence of the Suez Canal Campaign of World War I. An Ottoman force led by the German General Friedrich Freiherr Kress von Kressenstein made a surprise attack on three and a half squadrons of the British 5th Mounted Brigade, which was widely scattered to the east of Romani. The mounted brigade had been ordered to the area to protect the new railway and water pipeline being built from Kantara on the Suez Canal, as this infrastructure extended out past the Canal's zone of defences into the Sinai Peninsula towards Romani. Kress Von Kressenstein's attack was completely successful, decimating the equivalent of little more than a regiment. Hurricane Katia was a fairly intense Cape Verde hurricane that had substantial impact across Europe as a post-tropical cyclone. The eleventh named storm, second hurricane, and second major hurricane of the active 2011 Atlantic hurricane season, Katia originated as a tropical depression from a tropical wave over the eastern Atlantic on August 29. It intensified into a tropical storm the following day and further developed into a hurricane by September 1, although unfavorable atmospheric conditions hindered strengthening thereafter. As the storm began to recurve over the western Atlantic, a more hospitable regime allowed Katia to become a major hurricane by September 5 and peak as a Category 4 hurricane with winds of that afternoon. Kátia Cilene Teixeira da Silva (born 18 February 1977), known simply as Kátia, is a Brazilian former footballer. Career A former track and field star who finished as high as fifth in the heptathlon at the South American championships, Katia is a veteran of three World Cups and two Olympic games. She began her international career as a key member of the Brazilian team in the 1995 Women's World Cup in Sweden, then played all five of her country's matches in the Atlanta Olympics. Her outstanding play and two goals at the 1999 Women's World Cup drew rave reviews and in 2000 she finished fourth in scoring at the Sydney Olympics. Katia spent five seasons in the Brazilian Women's League and ranked as the No.1 goal scorer in each of them. In 1997 she scored 34 goals as the newly formed São Paulo FC won the Campeonato Paulista de Futebol Feminino.
