Northern Iran
Northern Iran (), is a geographical term that refers to a relatively large and fertile area, consisting of the southern border of the Caspian Sea and the Alborz mountains. Greater Tehran Metropolitan Area is the urban agglomeration around Tehran that covers the central part of the Tehran Province and eastern part of the Alborz Province, that covers the contiguous cities of Tehran, Ray, Shemirānāt, and other areas. As of 2012, Greater Tehran had a population of close to 14 million residents. Freeway 3, or more commonly known as Tehran-Shomal Freeway (; literally: ''Tehran-North Freeway'') or Tehran-Chalus Freeway will be a freeway in Northern Iran, connecting Tehran to cities of western Mazandaran. Chalus () is a city in the Central District of Chalus County, Mazandaran province, Iran, serving as capital of both the county and the district. History In the past and under Arabic influence, Chalus was called "Salus" or "Shalus". It has a long history of rebellions and clashes with regional rulers or occupying foreign forces.
