Kamalak TV
Kamalak TV was an Uzbek-American joint venture that provided telecommunication services to citizens and organizations in the Republic of Uzbekistan, using the MMDS system. History It was established in 1992 as a joint-venture between Metromedia's subsidiary Metromedia International, by means of its subsidiary International Telcell Inc. and the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan. As of 2000, Kamalak-TV was more expensive than the cable system installed by Republican Cable TV. KTV started with television services. The American side supplied the joint venture with the then-fashionable latest MMDS equipment available. Initially, Kamalak TV was limited to foreign diplomats and tourists; when it was discovered that the potential was narrow, broadcasts of certain channels ceased on 6 February 1996, opting to sign contracts with ORT, RTR and TV-6. Multichannel multipoint distribution service (MMDS), formerly known as broadband radio service (BRS) and also known as wireless cable, is a wireless telecommunications technology, used for general-purpose broadband networking or, more commonly, as an alternative method of cable television programming reception. MMDS is used in Australia, Barbados, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Portugal (including Madeira), Russia, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Thailand, Ukraine, United States, Uruguay and Vietnam. Metromedia
Metromedia, Inc. (also often MetroMedia) was an American media company that owned radio station, radio and television stations in the United States from 1956 to 1986 and controlled Orion Pictures from 1988 to 1997. Metromedia was established in 1956 after the DuMont Television Network ceased operations and its owned-and-operated stations were spun off into a separate company. Metromedia sold its television stations to News Corporation in 1985 (which News Corp. then used to form the nucleus of Fox Television Stations), and spun off its radio stations into a separate company in 1986. The National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan (. , MTRK) is the national broadcaster of Uzbekistan, operating four television networks. As of 1961, Tashkent was generating two television stations, with the main station on channel 3 and a second station on an unknown frequency. The Tashkent station also relayed its signal to other cities in the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic, Uzbek SSR. Uzbek is a Karluk Turkic language spoken by Uzbeks. The ''National Encyclopedia of Uzbekistan'' () is a general-knowledge encyclopedia written in Uzbek language, Uzbek. The majority of the articles in the ''National Encyclopedia'' were directly taken from the ''Uzbek Soviet Encyclopedia''. While the ''Uzbek Soviet Encyclopedia'' was published in 14 volumes, the ''National Encyclopedia of Uzbekistan'' has only 12 volumes. The first volume of the ''National Encyclopedia'' was published in 2000. The final 12th volume was published in 2006.
