Donetsk Oblast, also referred to as Donechchyna (, ), is an Oblasts of Ukraine, oblast in eastern Ukraine. It is Ukraine's most populous province, with around 4.1 million residents. Mariupol Raion (; ) is a raion (district) of Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. It was created in July 2020 as part of the reform of administrative divisions of Ukraine. The center of the raion is the city of Mariupol. In Ukraine, a hromada () is the main type of municipality and the third level Administrative divisions of Ukraine, local self-government in Ukraine. The current hromadas were established by the Cabinet of ministers of Ukraine, Government of Ukraine on 12 June 2020. Afiny
Afiny (), known in 1945–2024 as Zoria (), is a village in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. Since the October Revolution, it has been a Soviet kolkhoz with few inhabitants in the area of Mariupol amongst the villages of the native minority of the Greeks of Mariupol, which was very large amongst the Greeks in Russia and the Soviet Union. The leading communists of the Greek minority named the kolkhoz "Afiny" on 15 May 1927 after the name of Athens, Greece () and twenty buildings were constructed in the center of the tiny village. The inhabitants were almost all from the local Greek minority. They all came from the villages of , Kalchyk and . Their ancestors were coming in Donetsk, in 1780, from Crimea and from the villages (131 men & 113 women), (75 men & 79 women), and (51 men & 56 women). Maloianysol (; ), known from 1956 to 1995 as Kuibysheve () is a village in Kalchyk rural hromada, Mariupol Raion, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine. Geography Maloianysol is located in the Kalchyk river valley. The Kalchyk is a tributary of the Kalmius river that flows into the Azov Sea. Maloianysol is located from Mariupol. History The historic name of the village is ''Maloianysol''. The "-ianysol" part of the name is derived from the Urum language of the Ukrainian Greek settlers that founded the village in 1780 after emigrating from Crimea in 1778. The specific Urum term is (), where means 'new' and means 'village'. In 1886, Maloianysol had a population of 3778 people. During the Russian Civil War that took place between 1917 and 1923, Maloianysol changed hands several times between the opposing forces.
