Kalam or Ilm al-Kalam (lit. "science of discourse") is a term for methodic theology in Islam. Kalam
''ʿIlm al-Kalām'' ( ar, عِلْم الكَلام, literally "science of discourse"), usually foreshortened to ''Kalām'' and sometimes called "Islamic scholastic theology" or "speculative theology", is the philosophical study of Islamic doctrine (aqa'id''). It was born out of the need to establish and defend the tenets of the Islamic faith against the philosophical doubters. However, this picture has been increasingly questioned by scholarship that attempts to show that kalām was in fact a demonstrative rather than a dialectical science and was always intellectually creative. The Arabic term ''Kalām'' means "speech, word, utterance" among other things. Abul Kalam Azad
Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin Ahmed bin Khairuddin Al- Hussaini Azad (; 11 November 1888 – 22 February 1958) was an Indian independence activist, Islamic theologian, writer and a senior leader of the Indian National Congress. Following India's independence, he became the First Minister of Education in the Indian government. He is commonly remembered as Maulana Azad; the word Maulana is an honorific meaning 'Our Master' and he had adopted ''Azad'' (''Free'') as his pen name. His contribution to establishing the education foundation in India is recognised by celebrating his birthday as National Education Day across India. As a young man, Azad composed poetry in Urdu, as well as treatises on religion and philosophy. Mir Kalam Khan Wazir (Pashto/Urdu: ) is a Pakistani politician and a member of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He is a founding member of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM). On 30 August 2020, Mir Kalam survived an assassination attempt by two gunmen as he was traveling in his car in Mirali, North Waziristan after participating in a protest. He lamented that the police had not made any progress in investigating the case. Tõnu Kalam is an American orchestral pianist and conductor. He is best known as the music director of the UNC Symphony Orchestra at The University of North Carolina. He is also the former music director of the Longview Symphony Orchestra. Biography Early years Kalam was born to Estonian parents and has lived in the United States since age 2. He studied at Harvard University (A.B., 1969), the University of California at Berkeley (M.A., 1971) and the Curtis Institute of Music (Certificate, 1973). In his training as a classical conductor, composer and pianist, he studied with conductor Max Rudolf and composers Leon Kirchner and Andrew Imbrie. Murad Kalam (born Godffrey Williams; ar, مراد قلم) is an American writer. Kalam was born to a Jamaican father and a white mother. His family moved around the country frequently before settling in the suburbs of Phoenix, Arizona, where he grew up. In 1999, Kalam graduated from Harvard College, where he studied writing under Jamaica Kincaid and published in the '' Harvard Advocate''. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 2002. While in his second year of law school, Kalam published his first short story, "Bow Down," in '' Harper's'', which won an O. Henry Award.
