History Kakatpur is situated in the bank of ancient Prachi River. The ''Prachi Valley Civilization'' grew in this periphery which traces its inception from Stone Age. As it is the site of Mahanadi River Delta, It used to be a robust trade route for Sadhabas for their trade to South-East Asia. Evolution of the name of this place is associated with the deity Mangala. As per the legend, Goddess Mangala kept herself hidden under the deep water of river Prachi. Once a boatman was sailing his boat across river. Due to heavy rain and flood like situation he spent whole night in the middle of river. Maa Mangala Mandir is a Hindu Shakti Pitha located in Kakatpur of Odisha, on the eastern coast of India. Overview This is a 15th-century Hindu temple and a symbol of ancient Shakti Pithas of Kalinga. Sadhabas
Sadhabas (or Sadhavas) ( sādhaba) were ancient mariners from the Kalinga region, which roughly corresponds to modern Odisha, India. They used ships called Boitas to travel to distant lands such as South-East Asia to carry out trade. The early hours of Kartik Purnima (the full moon day in October and November) was considered an auspicious occasion by the Sadhabas to begin their long voyages. Coconuts, earthenware, sandalwood, cloth, lime, rice, spices, salt, cloves, pumpkins, silk sarees, betel leaves, betel nuts, elephants, precious and semi-precious stones were the main items of trade.
