North Tripura is an administrative district in the state of Tripura in India. The district headquarters are located at Dharmanagar. The district occupies an area of 1422.19 km2 and has a population of 693,947, 856,(as of 2024). History The territory occupied by North Tripura district was part of the princely state of Tripura until 9 September 1949, when it was merged with the Union of India. The district came into existence on 1 September 1970, when the entire state was divided into three districts. On 14 April. 1995 Dhalai district was carved out from this district. Tripura was divided into four districts but with effect from 21 January 2012 four more new districts was divided making a total of eight districts in the state. 2018 Tripura Legislative Assembly Election
The 2018 Tripura Legislative Assembly election was held on 18 February for 59 of the state's 60 constituencies. The counting of votes took place on 3 March 2018. With 43.59% of the vote, the BJP secured a majority of seats (36) and subsequently formed the government with Biplab Kumar Deb as Chief Minister. The former governing Left Front alliance while receiving 44.35% of the vote secured only 16 seats. Background The term of the Tripura Legislative Assembly ended on 6 March 2018. 2023 Tripura Legislative Assembly elections were held on 2023 elections in India, 16 February 2023 to elect all List of constituencies of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, 60 members of the Tripura Legislative Assembly.
