The station is owned by Gold Coast Broadcasting and broadcasts a Spanish-language news/talk format. By day, KVEN has a power of 10,000 watts. With a good radio, it can be heard up and down the Pacific Coast of California, from San Diego to Santa Barbara. Because AM 1520 is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A KOKC in Oklahoma City and WWKB in Buffalo, New York, KVEN drops its power at night to 1,000 watts to reduce interference.
