KNP Complex Fire
The 2021 KNP Complex Fire was a large wildfire in Sequoia National Park and the Sequoia National Forest in Central California's Tulare County, California, Tulare County. After lightning ignited the Paradise and Colony fires in the southern Sierra Nevada on September 9, the twin blazes combined into the Complex and burned a total of . The fire was not declared contained until mid-December, after several atmospheric rivers delivered rain and snow to the mountains. The number of firefighting personnel reached more than 2,000 and firefighting costs surpassed $170 million. The KNP Complex forced the communities of Three Rivers, California, Three Rivers, Wilsonia, California, Wilsonia, and Cedar Grove, Fresno County, California, Cedar Grove to evacuate, and caused the temporary closure of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks while damaging roads, trails, and cabins within. Tulare County
Tulare County ( ) is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 473,117. The county seat is Visalia. The county is named for Tulare Lake, once the largest freshwater lake west of the Great Lakes. Drained for agricultural development, the site is now in Kings County, which was created in 1893 from the western portion of the formerly larger Tulare County. Tulare County comprises the Visalia- Porterville, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county is located south of Fresno, spanning from the San Joaquin Valley east to the Sierra Nevada. 2021 California Wildfires
By the end of 2021, a total of 7,396 wildfires burned across the U.S. state of California. Approximately 3,629 structures were damaged or destroyed by the wildfires, and three firefighters died during the wildfire season. The wildfire season in California experienced an unusually early start amid an 2020–22 North American drought, ongoing drought and historically low rainfall and reservoir levels. In January 2021 alone, 297 fires burned on nonfederal land according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, which is almost triple the number of fires and more than 20 times the acreage of the five-year average for January.
