PubMed
PubMed is an openly accessible, free database which includes primarily the MEDLINE database of references and abstracts on life sciences and biomedical topics. The United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) at the National Institutes of Health maintains the database as part of the Entrez system of information retrieval. From 1971 to 1997, online access to the MEDLINE database was provided via computer and phone lines primarily through institutional facilities, such as university libraries. PubMed, first released in January 1996, ushered in the era of private, free, home- and office-based MEDLINE searching. The PubMed system was offered free to the public starting in June 1997. Content In addition to MEDLINE, PubMed provides access to: * older references from the print version of '' Index Medicus'', back to 1951 and earlier * references to some journals before they were indexed in Index Medicus and MEDLINE, for instance ''Science'', '' BMJ'', and ''Annals of Surg ...

Kieta Aropa Airport
Aropa Airport (or Kieta Airport) is an airport in Kieta, Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea. History The original grass airfield was occupied and expanded by the Imperial Japanese in spring 1942. It then became the target of Allied air bombing from mid-1943 to mid-1944. After World War II the airport became one of Bougainville's main airports. The airport was partially destroyed during the '' Bougainville Crisis'' of the 1990s and had been closed since then. For many years the airfield was disused and overgrown with bush. In February 2012 the owners announced their intention to reopen the airport. In a ceremony held on December 12, 2014 the airport was officially reopened by the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Peter O'Neill, and by the president of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, John Momis. For the time being the airport can only accommodate aircraft the size of Bombardier Dash 8 The De Havilland Canada DHC-8, commonly known as the Dash 8, is a series ...

Kie, Friesland
Kie () is a hamlet (place), hamlet in the Netherlands, Dutch municipality of Waadhoeke in the province of Friesland. It is located northwest of Hitzum, southeast of Herbaijum and just southwest of Franeker, of which it is a part administratively. The settlement of the hamlet is located on a road of the same name. The Van Harinxma Canal, formerly called the ''Harlingertrekvaart'', flows north of Kie. The floodgate constructed near Kie took its name from the hamlet: Kiesterzijl. Etymology In 1407 the place was mentioned as ''Kee'' (''Grata kee'' and ''Liteka kee''), in 1511 as ''Lutke kie'', in 1543 as ''Kye'', in 1572 as ''Kije'' and from the 17th century as ''Kie''. The place name is said to be a contraction of the Old Frisian word ''kêthe'' or ''kîth'', which means inheritance and family property. The inhabitants of Kie were often named ''Kesitt(e)ra'' or ''Keestra'', which form occurs in the West Frisian language, New Frisian surname ''Kiestra'' (next to ''Keestra''). History ...

Kinetic Isotope Effect
In physical organic chemistry, a kinetic isotope effect (KIE) is the change in the reaction rate of a chemical reaction when one of the atoms in the reactants is replaced by one of its isotopes. Formally, it is the ratio of rate constants for the reactions involving the light (''k'') and the heavy (''k'') isotopically substituted reactants ( isotopologues): KIE = ''k/k''. This change in reaction rate is a quantum effect that occurs mainly because heavier isotopologues have lower vibrational frequencies than their lighter counterparts. In most cases, this implies a greater energy input needed for heavier isotopologues to reach the transition state (or, in rare cases, dissociation limit), and therefore, a slower reaction rate. The study of KIEs can help elucidate reaction mechanisms, and is occasionally exploited in drug development to improve unfavorable pharmacokinetics by protecting metabolically vulnerable C-H bonds. Background KIE is considered one of the most essential ...
