K-148 (Kansas Highway)
K-148 is an state highway in the U.S. state of Kansas. K-148's western terminus is at K-28 north of Randall and the northern terminus is a continuation as Nebraska Highway 112 at the Nebraska state line. K-148 is signed as east–west its entire length although the last roughly runs north–south. Along the way K-148 intersects several major highways including U.S. Route 81 (US-81) east of Norway and US-36 south of Hanover. The highway travels through mostly rural land and small unincorporated communities, however it does pass through the cities of Agenda and Barnes. Before state highways were numbered in Kansas there were auto trails. The former Meridian Highway crosses K-148 slightly west of Talmo, the former Kansas White Way crosses between K-15 and Barnes, and the former Pikes Peak Ocean to Ocean Highway crosses by Hanover. Jewell County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kansas. Its county seat and most populous city is Mankato. As of the 2020 census, the county population was 2,932. K-9 (Kansas Highway)
K-9 is a state highway in the U.S. state of Kansas. The highway goes east–west through Kansas. It has its western terminus south of Dresden at an intersection with K-123 and an eastern terminus at its junction with U.S. Route 73 near Lancaster. K-9 is the second longest state highway after K-4. Route description K-9 begins south of Dresden at K-123 on the border between Sheridan and Decatur counties. After starting out along the border, it gradually follows an east-northeast alignment, as the highway parallels the north fork of the Solomon River. Kyle Railroad
The Kyle Railroad is a regional railroad line that runs from North Central Kansas into Eastern Colorado. It is based in Phillipsburg, Kansas and runs on of track, mostly the former Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad's Chicago to Denver main line. The Kyle was owned by RailAmerica from 2002 to 2012. Genesee & Wyoming Inc. bought RailAmerica in late 2012. As of 2024, KYLE holds 508 total miles (89 in Colorado and 419 in Kansas), has a maximum capacity of 286,000 gross pounds per railcar. Kackley, Kansas
Kackley is an unincorporated community in Republic County, Kansas, United States. It is located southeast of Courtland at Co Rd 5 and K-148 highway. History In 1887, Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway built a branch line from Neva (three miles west of Strong City) through Kackley to Superior, Nebraska. In 1996, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway merged with Burlington Northern Railroad and renamed to the current BNSF Railway. Most locals still refer to this railroad as the "Santa Fe". The town was once a trade center and was considered a "booming" town in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At its peak, the population was 200, but by 2007 had dwindled to 13. It was named for Joe Kackley, the original land owner. A post office was opened in Kackley in 1888, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1968.
