James Atkinson (bobsleigh)
James Neil Atkinson (January 10, 1929 – July 31, 2010) was an American bobsledder who competed in the early 1950s. He won a silver medal in the four-man event at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo. Jamie Atkinson
James John Atkinson (born August 1990) is an international cricketer who plays cricket for Hong Kong. He also captained the Hong Kong cricket team before stepping down in May 2015. A wicket-keeper, he has also represented Hong Kong at Under-19s level, and was selected as part of their squad for the 2010 U-19 Cricket World Cup. He was the first player (either male or female) born in the 1990s to play in ODI cricket as he made his debut at the age of 17 in 2008 against Pakistan during the 2008 Asia Cup. His father Steve played Minor Counties cricket. In 2014, Atkinson captained the Hong Kong team in their first global tournament, the World T20 in Bangladesh, defeating the hosts in their final match after two losses. James Atkinson (born 6 January 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Workington AFC. Atkinson has previously played for Queen of the South, Annan Athletic and Gretna 2008. Career Born in Carlisle, Cumbria, Atkinson started his career at Queen of the South. Atkinson was first included in a match-day squad on 23 July 2011, remaining an unused substitute as the team lost 2–0 after extra time at Somerset Park versus Ayr United in the first round of the Scottish Challenge Cup. Atkinson was also an unused substitute in 18 Division One matches that season, a campaign which ended in relegation to Division Two. Jim Atkinson
James Archibald "Snowy" Atkinson (4 April 1896 – 11 June 1956) was an Australian rules footballer and first class cricketer. Family The son of Michael James Atkinson, and Margaret Atkinson, née Markland, James Archibald Atkinson was born in Fitzroy North, Victoria on 4 April 1896. He married Mary Agnes McLoughlin in 1919. Football Atkinson played his football with Fitzroy in the VFL from 1917 to 1925. He was a defender, and in 1922 was a member of Fitzroy's premiership side as well as winning their Club Champion award. Atkinson was club captain in 1924 and 1925. He moved to Tasmania in 1926 and finished his footballing career with Lefroy. He represented Tasmania at the interstate football carnival in Melbourne in 1927. He broke "virtually every bone in his body" during his career, and his injuries finally forced him out of the game in 1930. James Atkinson (1886 – after 1910) was an English professional footballer who played as an inside forward or wing half in the Football League for Bolton Wanderers. Life and career Atkinson was born in 1886 in Manchester, and was playing Manchester League football for Newton Heath Athletic by the age of 15. He moved on to Sale Holmefield, had a trial with Manchester United that came to nothing, then signed for Bolton Wanderers in March 1905. He scored on his debut in the First Division a year later, but played only twice more in the league before spending the 1908–09 Southern League season as Brighton & Hove Albion's regular left half. James Atkinson (1759–1839) was an English surgeon and bibliographer. Life Atkinson was the son of a medical practitioner and friend of Laurence Sterne in York. He studied under Henry Cline and Thomas Denman. A Roman Catholic, he went into medical practice in York in 1782. He spent some time in continental travel. For many years Atkinson was the chief medical man in York, and remained in practice to within a few years of his death, which took place at the age of 80 at Lendal, on 14 March 1839. He was buried at St Helen, Stonegate Sterne portrait Laurence Sterne, vicar at Sutton-on-the-Forest some miles north of York, moved into the city in 1739, returning in 1742. The Atkinson family connection with Sterne led to the preservation of what is considered likely to be the earliest Sterne portrait, via an engraving by Charles John Smith. James Atkinson (inventor)
James Atkinson (1846 – 1914) of Hampstead was a British engineer who invented several engines with greater efficiency than the Otto cycle. The Atkinson cycle engines were named the "Differential 1882", "Cycle 1887" and "Utilite 1892". The most well-known of Atkinson's engines is the "Cycle 1887", patented in 1887. By use of variable engine strokes from a complex crankshaft, Atkinson was able to increase the efficiency of his engine, at the cost of some power, over traditional Otto-cycle engines.
