Annabelle Claire Bennett (born 8 January 1950) is the Chancellor of Bond University and a former Judge of the Federal Court of Australia. Early life and education Annabelle Claire Bennett (born Darin) was born in Sydney, Australia, to Emanuel Darin (born Finkelstein) and Raissa Darin (born Atlas). Bennett's father was a lawyer, and at an early age she had hopes of following him into the legal profession. Her father, however, thought that law was a bad career choice for women, because "you had to be better than the best to break even" and discouraged his daughter from pursuing this ambition. Instead, Bennett studied science at the University of Sydney and completed a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the same institution. Milo Lyman Bennett (May 28, 1789 – July 7, 1868) was an American jurist who served as an associate justice of the Vermont Supreme Court. Biography He was born in Sharon, Connecticut on May 28, 1789, the son of Edmund Bennett (d. 1829) and Mary (Gillet) Bennett (d. 1828). He was educated in Connecticut, and attended Williams College for two years. He graduated from Yale College in 1811, and his classmates included Roger Sherman Baldwin, Ralph Emerson, Henry Collins Flagg, Francis Granger, Levinus Monson, Sidney Edwards Morse, Samuel S. Phelps, Joseph Spencer, Selah B. Strong, Frederick A. Tallmadge, and Joseph Emerson Worcester. He studied at the Litchfield Law School, was admitted to the bar, and settled in Vermont. He served as State's Attorney of Bennington County for from 1821 to 1822, and in 1833. From 1824 to 1828 he was Bennington County's probate court judge. Nathaniel Bennett (June 27, 1818 – April 20, 1886) was one of the first Associate Justices of the California Supreme Court. Early life and education On June 27, 1818, Bennett was born in Clinton, New York, to a family of merchants and farmers. Entry for Nathaniel Bennett. Bennett was raised on a farm in Erie County, New York, and beginning at age 12 he attended military academies in Buffalo and then in Canandaigua, New York. In 1835, he studied at Hamilton College for one year, and then completed his degree at Yale University. After graduation, he read law and was admitted to the New York bar in 1840 as an attorney and in 1843 as a counselor. He then engaged in private practice with Eli Cook, whose brother was an attorney in California.
