James Baker (Missouri Judge)
James Addison Baker III (born April 28, 1930) is an American attorney, diplomat and statesman. A member of the Republican Party, he served as the 10th White House Chief of Staff and 67th United States Secretary of the Treasury under President Ronald Reagan and the 61st U.S. Secretary of State before returning as the 16th White House Chief of Staff under President George H. W. Bush. Born in Houston, Baker attended The Hill School and Princeton University before serving in the United States Marine Corps. After graduating from the University of Texas School of Law, he pursued a legal career. He became a close friend of George H. W. Bush and worked for Bush's unsuccessful 1970 campaign for the United States Senate. After the campaign, he served in various positions for President Richard Nixon. Jeremy Baker
Sir Jeremy Russell Baker (born 9 February 1958) is a British judge of the High Court of Justice of England and Wales. He is correctly styled Mr Justice Jeremy Baker, conveniently distinguishing him from Andrew Baker. Career Baker was called to the bar at Middle Temple in 1979. He was appointed an Assistant Recorder in 1996. In 1999, he became a King's Counsel. He was appointed a Recorder in 2000 and a circuit judge in 2010. On 25 March 2013, he was appointed a Justice of the High Court, and was assigned to the King's Bench Division. He received the customary knighthood in the 2013 Special Honours. Sir Andrew William Baker (born 21 December 1965), styled The Hon. Mr Justice Andrew Baker, is a judge of the High Court of England and Wales. He is currently Judge in Charge of the Admiralty Court. Biography He was educated at Lenzie Academy, read mathematics at Merton College, Oxford, and completed a postgraduate diploma in law at City, University of London. He was called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1988. He was made a judge of the High Court of Justice (King's Bench Division) in 2016 and invested a knight in the 2016 Special Honours. Walter Arnold Baker
Walter Arnold Baker (February 20, 1937 – May 24, 2010) was an American lawyer and politician who served in both houses of the Kentucky General Assembly, in the presidential administration of Ronald Reagan, and on the Kentucky Supreme Court. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Baker also served as a judge advocate general in the Kentucky Air National Guard for 20 years. Baker's political career began with his election to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1968, concurrent with the election of fellow Republican Louie B. Nunn as governor. Baker supported Nunn's efforts to raise the state sales tax to benefit education, the first of several education-related causes he would champion. In 1972, Baker was elected to the Kentucky Senate and was three times chosen as the Republican caucus chair. James McNair Baker (July 20, 1821 – June 20, 1892) was a lawyer, politician, and Senator from Florida in the Confederate Congress during the American Civil War. Biography Baker was born in Robeson County, North Carolina, a son of Archibald S. Baker and Catherine McCallum. He graduated from Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina, in 1844. His family has long been associated with the college, and the Baker Sports Complex there is named for them. Initially, Baker set up a law practice in Lumberton, North Carolina. But, after a bout with typhoid fever, he determined to move to a warmer climate and traveled to Florida on horseback. He re-established his practice of the law for a time at Old Columbia on the Suwannee River. The following is a list of all of the individuals who have served on the Supreme Court of Missouri. Missouri's Supreme Court had three judges from 1820 until 1872, when it was increased to five. In 1890 the number of judges was increased to seven, which is still the standard. Only the Chief Justice is referred to as "justice" while other members are referred to as "judge." Basil Baker (January 29, 1871 – September 20, 1941) was a justice of the Supreme Court of Arkansas from 1934 to 1941. Early life and education Born in Columbia County, Arkansas. His parents were farmer Joshua D. Baker and Bethia T. Jameson and they ran a store. Baker attended country schools and J.H Davis's Select Male School in his home county before graduating and moving on to college. In 1895 he graduated from Ouachita Baptist College (currently Ouachita Baptist University) in Arkadelphia. Upon his move to Craighead County, he became a teacher soon after, and also taught himself law. Baker came into each week ready to learn.
