Nippon Budokan
The , often shortened to simply Budokan, is an indoor arena in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. It was originally built for the inaugural Olympic judo competition in the 1964 Summer Olympics. The Budokan was a popular venue for Japanese professional wrestling for a time, and it has hosted numerous other sporting events, such as the 1967 Women's Volleyball World Championship. Most recently, the arena hosted the Olympic debut of karate in the 2020 Summer Olympics, as well as the judo competition at both the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2020 Summer Paralympics. While its primary purpose is to host martial arts contests, the arena has gained additional fame as one of the world's most outstanding musical performance venues. Cherine Abdellaoui (born 28 August 1998) is an Algerian Paralympic judoka. She won the gold medal in the women's 52 kg event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan. Priscilla Gagné (born 21 May 1986) is a partially blind Canadian judoka. She won a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. On 21 August 2021, Gagné was announced as Canada's flagbearer during the 2020 Summer Paralympics opening ceremony. Career Gagné won the bronze medal at the 2015 Para Judo World Cup. She is a double Parapan silver medalist and was the first Canadian female medalist in the IBSA World Championships. Gagné will be inducted into the Women's Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2024.
