Judo At The 1992 Summer Olympics
The Judo competition at the 1992 Summer Olympics was contested in fourteen weight classes, seven each for men and women. The seven men's weight classes continued to be those first used in 1980. This was the first Olympic competition to award medals to women judoka; women competed in 1988 when women's judo was a demonstration sport. Chung Hoon (; born 29 April 1969) is a South Korean judoka. He was born in Buan County, North Jeolla Province, South Korea. Chung was the World Champion at 71 kg in 1993. He won a bronze medal in the 1991 World Championships. Chung represented South Korea at the 1992 Summer Olympics, winning bronze in the Lightweight division. In the semifinal, he lost to Hungarian Bertalan Hajtós. Next year, Chung went up against the Hungarian judoka again in the final at the World Championship and avenged the loss by decision. Raymond Stevens (born 26 July 1963 in Camberley, Surrey) is a male retired judoka from the United Kingdom. Judo career Stevens started learning Judo at the age of ten and gained a black belt in Judo at the age of 16. He was twice a champion of Great Britain, winning the middleweight division at the British Judo Championships in 1984 and 1986. Hirotaka Okada
is a retired judoka who competed in the 78 kg and 86 kg divisions. Biography Okada began judo in primary school, and won the inter-highschool light heavyweight judo tournament in 1984. While attending the University of Tsukuba, he won the Jigoro Kano Cup in 1986 and the All-Japan Judo Championships in 1987 and 1988, followed with a gold medal in the 78 kg division of the World Judo Championships in 1987. This earned him a spot on the Japanese olympic judo team for the 1988 Summer Olympics, but he was unable to win a medal after a loss in the third round of the tournament. Okada joined the Marunaka corporation in 1990, and continued his graduate studies at the University of Tsukuba until 1993. Nicolas Gill (born 24 April 1972 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian judoka who competed at four consecutive Olympic Games. He is a two-time Olympic medalist, receiving a bronze in the middleweight (86 kg) division at his inaugural Olympiad in Barcelona. He received a silver medal in the men's half-heavyweight (100 kg) division at the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics.
