Juan Velarde Fuertes (26 June 1927 – 3 February 2023) was a Spanish economist. He was serving as President of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences. Biography Juan was born in the Asturian town of Salas Salas, from Spanish ''salas'' (rooms, halls), is a Spanish surname and a common family name in the Hispanic-speaking world. Juan Velarde is a Spanish pilot who currently competes in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship The World Championship Air Race is a series of air races sanctioned by the World Air Sports Federation (FAI). Originally established in 2003 as the Red Bull Air Race, and created by Red Bull GmbH, the event involves competitors navigating a .... He has extensive amounts of experience with various types of aircraft and is currently Spain's top pilot. In 2014 he joined the Challenger Class of the Red Bull Air Race. He was promoted to the Master Class in 2015, but he failed to score a point all season, finishing ahead of only fellow Master Class debutant and 2014 Challenger Class champion, François Le Vot.
