It was entered into the 22nd Berlin International Film Festival. George Sluizer
George Sluizer (25 June 1932 – 20 September 2014) was a French-born Dutch filmmaker whose credits included features as well as documentary films. Career Born in Paris, France, to a Dutch-Jewish father and a Norwegian mother, he was best known for directing two versions of '' The Vanishing'', a 1988 Dutch-language release, originally titled '' Spoorloos'', and the 1993 American version. Other feature films directed by Sluizer included '' Utz'' (1992) for producer John Goldschmidt, '' Crimetime'' (1995), and '' Dark Blood'', which was discontinued after the death of its lead actor River Phoenix, but later completed and premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival in 2012. Brazil has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film since 1960. The award is handed out annually by the United States-based Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature length motion picture produced outside the U.S. that contains primarily non-English language dialogue. It was not created until the 1956 Academy Awards, in which a competitive Academy Award of Merit was created for non-English speaking films, and has been given annually since. , 51 Brazilian films have been submitted for the award. This is a list of submissions to the 46th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film was created in 1956 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honour non-English-speaking films produced outside the United States. The award is handed out annually, and is accepted by the winning film's director, although it is considered an award for the submitting country as a whole. Countries are invited by the Academy to submit their best films for competition according to strict rules, with only one film being accepted from each country. For the 46th Academy Awards, twenty films were submitted in the category Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. East Germany and Finland made their debuts in the competition. The bolded titles were the five nominated films, which came from France, West Germany, Israel, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
